Sun WorkShop 5 non-expiring demo license?

Unread postby t-rexky » Sat Jan 25, 2014 7:30 am

Back in the day SUN has released non-expiring, any node, demo licenses for WorkShop 3 and WorkShop 5. The relevant page can still be found at:

http://wayback-beta.archive.org/web/20080220024130/http://www.sun.com/software/licensingcenter/sundev.xml

Unfortunately I am not able to find the referenced WS5.0_SPARC license file on the Oracle web site or anywhere else for that matter. Does anyone have it backed-up by any chance?

Many thanks.

Yes. I got an original installation media of WS5 but haven't chance to try since the license is not included, but i would love to.

Yes, I am still looking for the license since I was unable to locate it. Thank you.

I have a feeling I have some workshop packages in 'my' loft.

Will pop up this week and see what's up there.

I think I found a copy of said demo license on the net, for sparc at least. Anybody want it? Anybody have a copy of Workshop 5 to go along with it? I could use that...

Since I couldn't find a version number or year, I just took the shrinkwrap off a SunSoft Workshop media kit. Turns out it's from 1995, "Volume 4, Number 2" -- I'm guessing it predates Sun Workshop 3. In fact it includes discs for both Solaris 1.x and Solaris 2.x:

1.x has SPARCworks 3.0.1, SPARCompiler C 3.0.1, C++ 4.0.1, F77 3.0.1, etc
2.x has SPARCworks 3.1, SPARCompiler C 4.0, C++ 4.1, F77 4.0, F90 1.1, etc

It'll get imaged eventually, unless somebody has an urgent need. And yes, a license is needed...
Then? :IRIS3130: ... Now? :O3x02L: :A3504L:- :A3502L: :1600SW:+MLA :Fuel: :Octane2: :Octane: :Indigo2IMP: :Indy: ... Other: DEC :BA213: :BA123: Sun, DG AViiON, NeXT :Cube:

The question is, if you're able to use the Workshop 3 demo license also for SunOS 4 (Solaris 1.x). e.g. SPARCompiler 3.0.1 etc

Unfortunatelly I didn't try it because I wasn't sure and switched back to SPARCompiler C 2.0.1.

Next time I will try it, promise.
