That license that Oracle has up is so convoluted only an attorney on the clock could love it. It looks like one of the license parts (the part you agree to before downloading) states that if you have an entitlement document everything's OK. The other part of the license, the one you get when you click on "license" from the Solaris page, specifies "commercial use" in some parts in relation to needing a support contract and doesn't ever directly address non-commercial use. In short, it looks like Oracle is definitely leaving their options open.

Hopefully the salesperson is well informed and Oracle is going to keep the N/C Solaris program going - although without security patches the usefulness of it is minimal. It's odd because most companies with a noncommercial option are very upfront about it.

I also wonder how the move to "Solaris for Suns only" (assuming the ArsTechnica article is accurate) is being received by Sun's soon-to-be former partners, such as Dell.
