Video Lan Client for Irix?

Unread postby bobflappy » Wed Feb 05, 2003 8:51 am

VLC is an open source media player, that's able to play a lot of video formats, including divx, mpeg or dvds.

It's available for many operating systems, including Win32, Linux, OSX, QNX, BeOS, FreeBSD, and many other Unix like.

Just a question about it, does anyone knows if it has ever been compiled under Irix?

There's talk on the developer's list of it having been built for IRIX in the past using GCC (around November of last year), so yes I assume it's been done. I haven't tried though.

Video Lan Client

Unread postby dmoran » Tue Feb 25, 2003 1:28 pm

Besides vlc, has anyone tried compiling some of these clients?

vic - video conferencing tool that can receive and play live streams.
mim - (videolab.uoregon.edu) works like Cisco's IP/TV.
mplayer - (http://www.live.com/mplayer) mplayer with streaming support from live.com.

I've also tried using the IRIX version of RealPlayer to receive streaming video but it doesn't seem to work as advertised.

If anyone has successfully played with any of this software on IRIX, I'd sure like to know. I'm tired of watching CNN on my Windows box!

Back at my uni (http://www.pub.ro) there was a lab who had an Indy (with indicam) running vic & vat for videoconferencing purposes. There were vic binaries to be found scattered on uni ftp sites for all platforms as vic would not compile easily. Back then we used ftpsearch.ntnu.no to find the files. Try google.
