Discreet image import.

I'm having a problem converting MP4 movie files into something that discreet smoke/flame will recognize.

Using import image the files are visible, but all my conversions are not recognized. When Discreet talk about importing images, they mean both single frame type pictures and movie files.

The supported formats from the manual are (all 8 bit):
File Format : Supported Codec
MPEG-1 (.mpeg) : MPEG 1 Video
SGI Movie (.mov) : Uncompressed
SGI Movie (.mov) : MVC1
SGI Movie (.mov) : MVC2
SGI Movie (.mov) : JPEG
SGI Movie (.mov) : RLE
SGI Movie (.mov) : RLE24
QuickTime (.mov) : Uncompressed video apple
QuickTime (.mov) : Animation
QuickTime (.mov) : JPEG
QuickTime (.mov) : Motion JPEG A
QuickTime (.mov) : Apple Compact Video (cinepak)
QuickTime (.mov) : Indeo Video
QuickTime (.mov) : Apple Video
AVI (.avi) : Uncompressed Video
AVI (.avi) : JPEG
AVI (.avi) : Apple Compact Video
AVI (.avi) : Indeo Video

Using many attempts with ffmpeg from an IRIX box failed, not only producing something supported, but a lot of the ones mentioned above.

Using a modern LINUX build, I can produce all of these, but they still fail to be recognized.

Example attempts with ffmpeg

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i 0015.MP4 -vcodec MVC1 - acodec copy 0015.mov
ffmpeg -i 0015.MP4 -vcodec v210 -acodec copy 0015.mov
ffmpeg -i 0015.MP4 0015.mov
ffmpeg -i 0015.MP4 0015.avi
ffmpeg -i 0015.MP4 0015.sgi
ffmpeg -i 0015.MP4 0015.mpeg

I have tried multiple differing conversions, with and without stipulating the codec.

Anyone have any ideas? I don't mind transforming the images/films using another platform.

Cheers

I'd tried with the DPS single files which failed, but this worked.. Wish I'd posted this question this morning. :D

Thanks foetz.

hey uunix, why don't you use "shrink and tether" to connect to the wiretap daemon of your ifffs system?
http://www.instinctualsoftware.com/Instinctual_Software/home.html

.. actually it is "tether" what does the import to the StoneFS. check the features here:
http://www.instinctualsoftware.com/Instinctual_Software/tether.html

It was once commercial, but the people from instinctualsoftware gave it 2011 for free to me, just asking them nicely. I successfully imported ARRI Alexa mov's (ProRes) once with it. Mac OSX 10.5 running on a VM (i.e. on CentOS) is mandatory for it.

Thanks hhoffman, I will contact them. Looks rather cool.
