DMediaPro VBOB 013-2746-006 vs. 013-3646-006 ?

Unread postby jan-jaap » Tue Jun 07, 2011 2:30 am

Does anybody know what's the difference between a DMediaPro VBOB 013-2746-006 and 013-3646-006 ?

I was aware of this bit in the DM5 User's Guide:

Code: Select all

Note: Only VBOB units with part number 013-2746-004 (or later) can be upgraded
at a customer site with the DM5 option. All other VBOB units must be exchanged as
part of the upgrade.

I got a VBOB type 013-3646-006 rev A with my Tezro. It has the DM5 option installed (the one with three DVI connectors). It reports "VBOB firmware revision 1.3.22" on the serial console.

I've seen a 013-2746-006 rev A on eBay and it seems to be an older serial# (MPT811) than mine (NSYxxx). Coincidentally, I had just ordered a VBOB (with DM5) for my Octane2, and received another 013-3646-006. Nearly the same serial# as the one I have with the Tezro. This part number doesn't show up anywhere. What's up?
Now this is a deep dark secret, so everybody keep it quiet :)

Perhaps the difference might be for which graphics platform the VBoB to be connected to - Odyssey or InfiniteReality?

There's a revision of the DMediaPro VBoB with a TOI daughterboard intended for use with DG5-2/TVO. The TOI/TMDS daughterboard has two TMDS ports (as opposed to the three DVI ports seen on the Odyssey-intended DM5 daughterboard). I have an TOI/TMDS equipped example with a 013-2746-007 Rev.A chassis part number (and an MTP-211 serial number), while a DMediaPro VBoB with a DM5 option board I had here briefly had a chassis part number of 013-3646-006 Rev A and an NSY256 serial number. Both ran the same 1.3.22 firmware/1.1 bootloader.

Two examples probably aren't a large enough sample to say the different serial numbers indicate the target graphics platform, so if anyone else has a DMediaPro VBOB that differs from that part number/option board configuration please post a follow up.

But you're right, there's very little DMediaPro VBoB info available on TechPubs. Since there's so little documentation, please consider adding anything you find to the nekochan thread on the subject: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16724197

Updated to include part and serial numbers (recondas).

Some pictures of the VBOB with part# 013-3646-006. This one came with my 4x 1GHz Tezro, and the serial numbers are similar to those found on boards of the Tezro.

Hi,
I have stored in my hardisk this picture showing a 013-2746-007 with a DM5. This can tell that the difference can be a different release of the hardware but with the same functions (modernization?).

Previous releases (before 013-2746-004) can be the first series for Octane and Onyx2 when the DM5 was not available:

This pictures are not taken by me so I can't confirm. :(

The VBOB on my Tezro looks exactly like the top one including the DM5.

Here's a few shots of the inside of the TOI/TMDS equipped 013-2746-007 Rev A VBoB.

If someone with an 013-3636-00x VBoB would like to compare to see what might be different inside the 013-3646-00x and 013-2746-00x VBobs, the main board is labeled with part number 030-1515-008 Rev A (and the TOI/TMDS option board is 030-1537-002 Rev C):

Hi,

i also have a VBoB, it's a 013-2746-007 Rev A VBoB. I have the version with DM5 option installed, i use it with a Octane2/DM2 and it works flawless. I also included some pictures. So with this one we already have 2 013-2746 with DM5.

Leaves the question why the VBoB got a new part number instead of just a new revision once in the past.
