Has anybody tried building FFmpeg recently?

Unread postby jimmer » Tue Oct 17, 2017 5:49 pm

I fired up redbox before and tried building various recent and (much) older FFmpeg versions, to no avail.

Anybody have some topical hints and tips on the matter?

I have it building from their GitHub on my O2 as we speak. So far so good (I'm about 3 hours into the build on a 180mhz machine). The only thing is you need bash, and make a symlink from /bin/sh to bash because the build scripts use a lot of bash-isms and SGIs default /bin/sh is actually Korn shell, so it makes the build scripts do bizarre things. Just remember to put sh back to the way it was because SGI's boot scripts are ksh scripts.

You can change your default shell in your ~/.profile, that's how I change mine to bash on my SGIs and Suns.

I have built ffmpeg on my Slackware box many times (Slack didn't used to include it, I think it does now as part of the electricsheep package, not too sure about that).

praetor242 were you able to get it to build all the way on your O2? :?: :?: :?:

Yes. It built (but not without some coaxing), but it took...for...freaking....ever. So unless you have a lot of time on your hands, it's best to build it on an Origin hehe

Oh! Learned something new. I know Nolan Ryan is from here. He's was a big Rangers baseball player with an awful temper. He was well known for his temper.
