Yeah, that's quite a story. Blender 2.5 and newer versions depends on a Python 3.1 or better version, which we didn't have back in 2009 so we got cracking and created a Python 3.1.1 build.
Then we waited for the Blender 2.5 alpha version for IRIX but it never came, because this happened:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16722311&p=7315635&hilit=python+3.1#p7315637

Bad luck (tm) basically. Theoretically it can still happen, but this takes a lot of time and effort.

The Irix port has been completely removed from the blender subversion tree:

That's gratitude for ya. Wasn't Blender originally an Irix program with a Loonix 'port' ?

Yup!

If there's a mention on the Blender developer mailing list about removing IRIX from their subversion tree I can't find it. There is a "drop IRIX" thread from 2009 but it looks like it was just dropping the scons build system from the IRIX branch, because their IRIX maintainer, Stefan Gartner, wasn't using it. Anyone know Stefan, or if he's a member here?

Yes, really an unlucky Story! Does anybody have the Last build with all the known dependencies? I would like to set the octane2 to try this difficult "mission", why not? Will some hours for a long period do an effect?

I knew there was a reason why I both regularly synchronise my work between my SGI machines and my PC, plus why every month or so I slap a spare drive into my Indigo2 and Fuel and do a clone of the system drive across.
Systems in use:
:Indigo2IMP: - Nitrogen: R10000 195MHz CPU, 384MB RAM, SolidIMPACT Graphics, 36GB 15k HDD & 300GB 10k HDD, 100Mb/s NIC, New/quiet fans, IRIX 6.5.22
:Fuel: - Lithium: R14000 600MHz CPU, 4GB RAM, V10 Graphics, 72GB 15k HDD & 300GB 10k HDD, 1Gb/s NIC, New/quiet fans, IRIX 6.5.30
Other system in storage: :O2: R5000 200MHz, 224MB RAM, 72GB 15k HDD, PSU fan mod, IRIX 6.5.30

And irony of all ironies, just turned on my Fuel and the bloody option disk has packed in :(

No, I am not making this up. Thankfully, I do have a spare.

He hasn't logged in since 2013 and he hasn't posted since 2010. :x

I once spent a day trying to install Irix to a brand new but completely dead 73gb Cheetah. Thankfully I too had a spare! :P
