GCC-4.8.0 porting.
I am currently working on replacing the IRIX specific source code removed from GCC 4.8.0 and later distributions. I am down to remaining 10K lines of code to check and if nothing unexpected shows up should have a patch file to build a GCC 4.8.0 compiler ready in a couple of weeks.

Great stuff! It's something I've wanted to do myself to be honest, but I probably lack the programming/debugging skills to do it properly. I imagine the later 5.x builds will be a lot more difficult.
Wish you the best of luck!

Re: GCC-4.8.0 porting.
I really wonder what happened to this interesting project - the announcement was made more than 2 years ago.
From v4.80 it is (possibly) a very small step to v4.81 which would bring support for all major features of C++11.
