VLC or MPV for IRIX?

Unread postby Raion-Fox » Thu Jul 17, 2014 6:54 am

Hey guys,

So I got Mplayer working on Mima ( Yuyuko, being a Fuel, doesn't have a sound card yet ) and Mima will play most non x264 videos, but I've been really, really used to VLC, and recently also have been using MPV on my FreeBSD box.

Since I have yet to get a build environment setup ( An old friend who's an SGI dealer is hooking me up with someone who has NOS copies ) I wanted to see if someone has tried compiling a recent build of either of these or would be willing to try.

I am probably posting from yangxiaolong, HP Z230 with Xeon E3-1230v3, 16GB RAM, GeForce 750ti, and running NetBSD and Windows 8.1 Embedded.

The Mplayer in nekoware has been highly optimized for MIPS and Irix. Three or four very capable people put in a lot of hours on that.

Not to say that you couldn't duplicate that work on another application but since there are maybe five people in the known universe willing to mess with Irix, I believe that it would be a better use of resources to perhaps transfer the existing work to a newer version of Mplayer.
I spent a fortune on booze, birds, and fast cars ... the rest I just squandered

Oh Mplayer runs fine on IRIX, but on FreeBSD I can't use it because it runs like hell. I was just checking if someone had tried building either of those.
