i finally unpacked the fuel + (thanks to joerg) the F190, after re:seating RAM + V12 my fuel seems to work OK... it had quite a ride from michigan to london but steve (pas1tech) is a nice guy and set me up with mint skins :) ...

now i have to follow joerg's advice and buy some fujitsu hds cause the louder thing inside this fuel is the maxtor hd (i can't stand high:pitch sounds :x )

if anyone who understands all of this output(s), spots something worng with the fuel, please give me a shout (i just copied neko's commands)

Nice box!

Nothing wrong, but that disk looks like an IBM/Hitachi Ultrastar 146Z10 to me. I've got a Seagate 15K3 in my Fuel. It has fluid bearings, so it's very quiet.

To accentuate the special identity of the IRIS 4D/70, Silicon Graphics' designers selected a new color palette. The machine's coating blends dark grey, raspberry and beige colors into a pleasing harmony. (IRIS 4D/70 Superworkstation Technical Report)

Did you get Z-Term to cooperate? I finally got around to plugging my FTDI and Prolific USB to serial adapters into my Fuel's L1 to confirm the settings for you, but it looks like you've deleted the topic :)

true (my bad) it's a noisy hitachi ultrastar (sounds like it's dying too)....

just ordered some fujitsu matxx (following joerg's tip on how low-noise they are)

nekonoko wrote:Did you get Z-Term to cooperate?

no i didn't, didn't gave it enough tries tho... after re-seatting the v12 + ram sticks fuel is alive+kickin...

I've got some fujitsu 10k 73GB and they are really quiet, when they're not accessing you can barely tell they're on, even by touching them

Boohoohoo... sniffle.

I want a Fuel as good as that...

If anyone actually has a practical use for a 128P Origin 3800, I'd like to know about it...

No, just thinking about it makes me ill

Same specs as fu's but 4 gigs of memory and a dcd bolted to the v12.

I was being a little facetious about the offer. Most people today are paying less than what 3*-**c screwed me out of by shilling up the price. I figger in another seventeen years it will be amortized ... have been thinking an 800 mhz cpu would be great but hell, for the price of that cpu I could buy three nice 1 ghz AIX machines and switch from Pro/E to Catia. And no, I'm not telling where :P

Ah, but unless you're already well versed, it's going to cost you a lot more just in time for the software switch. Catia didn't even win quite as many awards for usability, GUI, and standard application interfaces as Pro/E.....
