The file is located in the following directories on one of my machines:

Code: Select all

OCTANE04 29# find / -name libInventor.so.3 -print
/usr/lib/libInventor.so.3
/usr/lib/InventorDebug/libInventor.so.3
/usr/lib32/libInventor.so.3
/usr/lib32/InventorDebug/libInventor.so.3
/usr/lib64/InventorDebug/libInventor.so.3
/usr/lib64/libInventor.so.3
/usr/aw/studiopaint9.5/lib/libInventor.so.3

Let me fire up another and see what's on that.

The complaint is that it can't find that file under any of the directories it's trying to look through.

So as a test, you could put it in any of those folders '/usr/discreet/lib64/DlVIO/40' for example..

[edit]
Oh, and as point, you said nothing changed.. are you sure it is still looking for that exact file?

I think you may have to get Inventor sorted.. it may be the n32 vs 64-bit (since you copied a 64bit version..)

Code: Select all

TEZRO01 7# file /usr/lib64/libInventor.so.3
/usr/lib64/libInventor.so.3:    ELF 64-bit MSB mips-3 dynamic lib MIPS - version 1
TEZRO01 8# file /usr/lib32/libInventor.so.3
/usr/lib32/libInventor.so.3:    ELF N32 MSB mips-3 dynamic lib MIPS - version 1
TEZRO01 9#

How can I get inventor onto the machine without any conflicts?

These are the disks I used to install IRIX:

irix6.5.30insttoolsOverlays1of3Aug2006
irix6.5.30Overlays2of3Aug2006
irix6.5.30Overlays3of3Aug2006
irix6.5ApplicationsAug2006

Together with:

foundation 1 released 06/98
foundation 2 released 06/98
ONC3/NFS version 3 released 05/99

According to the discreet IRIX install guide you need:

Code: Select all

• IRIX 6.5.28 Installation Tools and Overlays (1 of 3) August 2005—P/N 812-0818-028
• IRIX 6.5.28 Overlays (2 of 3) August 2005—P/N 812-0819-028
• IRIX 6.5.28 Overlays (3 of 3) August 2005—P/N 812-0817-028
• IRIX 6.5 Applications August 2005—P/N 812-0877-028
• IRIX 6.5 Foundation 1—P/N 812-0759-002
• IRIX 6.5 Foundation 2—P/N 812-0760-002
• ONC3/NFS version 3, for IRIX 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and 6.5—P/N 812-0774-002

Don't worry about the version number if you have installed 6.5.30 so long as they are not too early.

Looks like we are sorted there.

This is also required:

Code: Select all

Another distribution on the IRIX 6.5.28 Overlays (2 of 3) CD that you require is in the /CDROM/dist/unbundled directory. To install this distribution, type: /CDROM/dist/unbundled

Also interesting:

Code: Select all

3. Type install standard
4. To prevent conflicts with appletalk.sw.xinet_base subsystems, type: keep java2_plugin.sw32.mozilla_freeware
5. To prevent conflicts with inventor_dev.sw.base, type the following: keep inventor_dev.sw.base
keep inventor_dev.sw.lib

I've got these versions:

• IRIX 6.5 Foundation 1—P/N 812-0759-002
• IRIX 6.5 Foundation 2—P/N 812-0760-002
• ONC3/NFS version 3, for IRIX 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and 6.5—P/N 812-0774-002

I didn't do this, so could this be the problem?

• To prevent conflicts with appletalk.sw.xinet_base subsystems, type: keep java2_plugin.sw32.mozilla_freeware
•To prevent conflicts with inventor_dev.sw.base, type the following: keep inventor_dev.sw.base
keep inventor_dev.sw.lib

Is this absolutely necesarry if you install 6.5.3?

I would say so.

Again, I would say it should be installed if the guide says it should.

6.5.30 Overlay 2 contains the unbundled directory, therefore the same laws must apply.

After carrying out these instructions. I still get the following conflicts:
IMG_3542.JPG

I let it initially read the disks in this order:

irix6.5.30insttoolsOverlays1of3Aug2006
irix6.5.30Overlays2of3Aug2006 (together with DCROM/DIST/unbundled)
irix6.5.30Overlays3of3Aug2006
irix6.5ApplicationsAug2006
foundation 1 released 06/98
foundation 2 released 06/98
ONC3/NFS version 3 released 05/99

After reading typed:

Keep *
Keep java2_plugin.sw32.mozilla_freeware
Keep java2_plugin.sw32.mozilla_freeware
Keep inventor_dev.sw.lib
install standard
install prereqs (which didn't work!)
Keep incompleteoverlays
go

Do you have Development Foundation and Development Libraries Disks?
[Edit]

These are where my files have been installed from. I will check another to see where they sourced from.

dev.sw.lib
================Disk 1 Development Libraries
gl_dev.sw.gldev
================Disk 3 Graphic Lib Development System
inventor_eoe.sw.inventor
================Disk 3 Inventor required files
c_dev.sw.c
================Disk MIPSPro-7.4.4 (That must have been over written, you don't need that version)
compiler_eoe.hdr.lib
================Disk ??? I don't have it.
dev.hdr.lib
================Disk MIPSPro again,

Irinikus wrote:How would I go about this while carrying out a fresh install, which disks are required and in what order?

If all the disks have been read.[Edit The order you did it last time is fine]
Once you have typed keep* just type the following lines as they are below..

install eoe.sw.fonttools
install eoe.sw.uucp
install eoe.sw.xlv
install eoe.sw.spell
install ftn_eoe
install inventor_eoe.sw64
install ifl_eoe.sw64
install dmedia_eoe.sw64

Once done, type 'go' again.. and see what conflicts you have.

If it is easier though, you can complete the install by not installing the items causing conflict and use the graphical tool 'Software Manager' So if you haven't scrubbed your disk, you should boot it up.

I would follow you step by step and compare outputs, but I don't have a naked SGI machine I'm afraid.

BTW, do you have the Discreet document for installing 6.5.28 ? (it should work for 6.5.30 - excluding part numbers).

commands before I type "go"
