Fuel 900MHz V10 1GB MAD DM10

Unread postby hoosyny » Sun Feb 08, 2015 9:25 am

Here is my Fuel.
The M-Audio Revolution 7.1 and DM10 cards are my additions.
The DM10 is a 3 port Firewire card manufactured by ATEN.

Specific model of the Aten card? I don't think that's on the Fuel HW aggregator.

Nice system! But you need more RAM! And a V12! And a DCD! You should give the 900MHz card to me! ;)
smit happens.

You wasted no time! "Hello everyone. Oh, and eat my 900MHz Fuel".

Nice system by the way, but Classic is right that another GB or so of RAM and a V12 would be the cherry on the top :)

A 900MHz PIMM? Outstanding! More RAM is always nice, but 1GB actually goes a long way under IRIX unless you're doing Serious Work.

Unfortunately finding a V12 may be time consuming and/or expensive.

We're anything but Serious but I pulled half the memory out and still ...

memory.jpg

Even running several "memory-hog" apps at once, I've never been able to use more than maybe 2 gigs. It will fill up with filesystem cache but heck, that's no biggy.

I've come to the conclusion that Yewnix really doesn't handle memory all that well. And fireflop, well, let's not even go there.

I'm sure there are some cases where more memory is a help but in general, the Big Memory thing seems to be kind of a fetish.

I'm definitely jealous of that cpu card tho. That's about the best Fuel you'll ever see :D

True dat, hoosyny's cpu card is da schnizle but hamei if you want to firehose your Fool's RAM you need to load some of the Pro/E models we have at my place of employ...

I have studied this forum for knowing what to look for, but it was not cheap.
Actually I was just one second late and missed something that looked to be a quad 1GHz Tezro, fully equipped, V12, DCD, DM3, RAD, original OS, property of Autodesk stickers, for 700 USD + 200 USD shipping. Then I was so sad and bought the Fuel for the same price 700 + 200.
To justify the money and not cry for the Tezro, I am saying to myself that Fuel is much nicer than Tezro.
But I should not complain about costs because I plan an important business with it, like enjoying music and anime episodes.

I have not checked if the Firewire card works for something. I think that I have to install some drivers for it.

The Fuel is still a very nice system and does have some advantages over the Tezro (mainly noise, space and power-usage). If you don't need multi-processing capability and can live with the fact that the case isn't as funky, it can be just as good if equipped with a few extras like a soundcard, gigabit ethernet card, etc.

Although saying that, from the two SGIs in my signature, I'd say my Indigo2 does get more use than my Fuel funnily enough.

The Texas Instruments TSB43AB23 is a compatible FireWire controller, so the card should "just work." You'll need the DM10 development libraries, see the Aggregator for more: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9046

If you get this card working, we can add it to the list.

I like the Tez on paper, but the Fuel is a lot easier to live with. I already have one hot, loud computer. :)

Every time I turn my Tez on, the fans in the back sound like they're trying to launch the thing right off the desk, "Houston we have a problem, the Tezro's trying to go all Kitty Hawk on my ass..."
