BTW: The PSU on this Fuel is no longer powering up. Not sure if I'll replace it or try the ATX hack yet, but stay tuned. (Don't literally stay tuned, it might be another five years...)

I have a Fuel PSU I can give you cheap if you don't go the ATX hack route. PM me your info.

Are there any spares you don't have? :D

I tend to get this stuff by the pallet so I wind up with a little of everything. :D

Thanks again to mopar5150 for the replacement PSU.

The thin client on my desk couldn't access the serial port (nice job, Wyse/SuSE). As it was on the desk right above the Fuel, I couldn't just drag in some other device... I finally sorted it out by pulling the flash DOM and booting Debian off of a thumb drive.

So here's what was in the L1 logs from previous attempts to powet up:

Not promising. Here's what I got when I tried to power it up from the L1:

At (hopefully) small risk of doing further damage I turned off environmental monitoring and powered up again, so I'd have a little more time to get actual voltage readings out of the L1.

So, not promising. Time to start searching the forums and 'Net for these errors. Maybe take enough things out of the Fuel for a close visual inspection, and reseat a few things. And time to post this, since this Live Debian instance has already locked up on me once, losing a post...

Start by pulling out all of the PCI cards and then disconnect the HDD and power it up again. I can send you a 600mhz MB+CPU to test with if you need it.

As dumb as it sounds, check for screws rolling around in the case or under the PIMM module. I have found this in many machines where I had random PSU and memory issues.

Did we get a solution on this?

I came back tonight and for the first time in a week powered on the FUEL.. only to be greeted with it powering off after 30 seconds (I now know).

Checked the console out which would have given me a red hearing as I'd be pulling all sorts of things..

Code: Select all

IP35 PROM SGI Version 6.210  built 02:33:51 PM Aug 26, 2004
Running in DDR mode
Testing/Initializing memory ...........

So connected to the L1

Code: Select all

001a01 ATTN: XIO 3.3V AUX low fault limit reached @  0.000V.

001a01 ATTN: brick auto power down in 30 seconds

001a01 ATTN: brick auto power down in 25 seconds

001a01 ATTN: brick auto power down in 20 seconds

001a01 ATTN: brick auto power down in 15 seconds

001a01 ATTN: brick auto power down in 10 seconds

001a01 ATTN: brick auto power down in 5 seconds

001a01 ATTN: brick is powering down now!

Pulled cards, disconnected drives, changed the power plug it was plugged into.. no joy!

AND THIS IS WHAT PISSES ME OFF!!!

I don't turn it on for a few days, and then they cry like a damn baby and blow themselves up!!! It's not been moved, there are no screws floating around , there has been no power spikes.. IT's JUST HAVING A BITCH FIT BECAUSE IT FELT LEFT OUT!!! FSCKER!!!

This machine has been flawless, each day I turn it on.. and I know it's going to turn on!

Mine's not been on for weeks, maybe months - this does not bode well ... though maybe the prospect of pseudo-DCD when I come to experiment with the Dualhead2Go will be incentive enough.
It has red-lighted before but recovered after a console log-in. <fingers crossed >
