Not overly special hardware wise, though it's a very cool looking machine; the front LED throws a nice glow throughout the crystal face.

Looks really cool. How do you like that keyboard? I was thinking about picking one up but have never heard any pros or cons about one.

It uses a laptop style half stroke keyboard and that can be a negative for some. They do work perfectly with SGI machines and the backlighting can be helpful sometimes.

Updated with new RM5200/300MHz CPU module. Interestingly, the VICE revision changed from DX to TRE just from the CPU module swap, suggesting that it's actually not tied to the motherboard revision at all.

Nope - it's all stock. The only thing I've added is a faster CPU.

It's odd how natural the Microsoft mouse looks next to a clear O2.

You mean SGI only looks good next to Microsoft when all the color has been sucked out of it?

Who knew? :P

Is this the clear O2 with the crack in the back or another one?

Either way, it looks awesome, despite the M$ mouse.

Full disclosure: I have the same MS mouse on my O2. Say what you will about Microsoft, but they do know how to make a good mouse. (Sorry to hijack the thread, Neko...)

The keyboard/mouse are just "peripherals of opportunity" as I don't keep this system set up all the time (it lives on a shelf) :) In fact, I couldn't find the little green USB to PS/2 converter for the mouse last night so I used a standard SGI mouse while testing the 300MHz CPU.

Updated: RM7000/600MHz CPU, FPA and matching clear 1600SW.

Only thing I need for it now is another 512MB and an O2 cam.

Nice!

Does your 600 have external cache on the CPU board?

I think so - it lists tertiary cache on hinv:

Code: Select all

Secondary unified instruction/data cache size: 256 Kbytes on Processor 0
Ternary unified instruction/data cache size: 1 Mbyte on Processor 0
