It was, though the first boot after installation it loaded 2@1280x1024_60 <apparently the default setting if it didn't like what you had selected>, rather than the single display 1920x1200_60 I had it set at. Not a big problem , but with a single display I could only see half of my desktop until I re-ran setmon to get back to 1920x1200 <aimed at my single display>. I'm using a 24" lcd, which I thought it looked acceptable at 1920x1200 connected to the vga port. Don't think I could go back now that I've seen the results when connected to the dvi port. Looks like I need to budget for a matching second lcd.

There's a copy of the manual 'Dual Channel Display Guide for Silicon Graphics Octane2 and Silicon Graphics Fuel Workstations' on TechPubs.

Switched from one 1920x1200 display to two 18" 1280x1024 LCD displays <connected via the DCD>. The DCD dual display mode spans both monitors, giving an effective resolution of 2560x1024.

Here's a photo of the setup running ElectroPaint <with a fairly long shutter time - excuse the motion blur in the EP elements>.

Yes - you can see them listed in the "diskpatch" portion of my original post. They're the ones where the drive firmware returned "Avid". <diskpatch is an older IRIX utility intended to "prevent stiction problems with some disk drives", but using it with the -v switch is a quick way to get a list of hard drives attached to the system>

Well, thank-you for the information, hmmm, I think I'll just stick in another HDD instead of such an array.

I was wondering what all those disks were doing in one octane :D.

Is that array SGI branded, it doesn't look it.
