Trusted Irix 5.3/6.5

Unread postby Nihilus » Thu Feb 23, 2006 5:21 pm

I'd say that we need more information on this subject. Nice to see that SGI marketed their products to organizations that have a need for top-security. So my question is: How differs the Trusted Irix against the standard?
SGI Systems: R4K :Indigo:/256MB/XS-24, R5K 150MHz :Indy:/160MB/XL-24, R10K 175MHz :O2:/640MB, R12K 400MHz :Octane2:/Vpro6/1GB & R4K 250 MHz :Indigo2IMP:/128 MB/XZ Extreme/GIO64 FDDI

isnt this trusted irix relatively new ?

does anybody think it's a little weird (but great at the same time) that SGI would release a new or modified Irix version considering it's slated for EOL. And the release clearly states it was developed for governmental use... i wouldnt be surprised if the govt funds extended irix versions.

About 10 years old, maybe a little more, if I'm not mistaken.

EDIT:

SGI Stuff says IRIX 4.01T released sometime after 11/1991 and before 03/1992 ... I guess it makes it even older that I thought.

Yep, TRIX's been around for ages. The last one AFAIK was TRIX 6.5.18, adaptative overlays that you can load on anything 6.5.18 and above.

There was TRIX 6.5.5, also, one of the few bootable / inst'able media sets.

As for TRIX 6.2, that was an overlay that you couldn't install from miniroot, you had to install IRIX 6.2 and then TRIX on top. Have the original CDROM here.

Never seen TRIX 5.2 or lower IRL, but I'd sure love to. :)

There are at least two other threads that have more info, try the search in conjunction with authors mia, foetz or myself.
