One of the best anime ops of all time I think!

Currently been powering through Martian Successor Nadesico and Log Horizon. The former being so tonally all-over-the-map that it approaches being the Excel Saga of space/mecha anime, but with an actual worthwhile plot, and the latter being the best approach I've personally seen to the "MMORPG players wind up in the game for realz" premise that everybody seems to be doing these days.

Hm... I don't know if I posted these before, but I very recently watched these and can recommend both, despite their being really weird. But hey, it's from Japan, right?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3615204 - Hâmonî
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4235644 - Shisha no Teikoku

Both from Project ITOH. Haven't gotten my hands on the third oeuvre yet. But definitely planning on!

If you like complex storyline anime like Akira/Ghost in the Shell then you will probably love Tekkon Kinkreet. It is my all time fave.

It is strange at first because it doesn't follow the usual anime look formula, but it is an amazing experience.

Not so much a series, but we watched Kaze tachinu (The Wind Rises) last night, thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm going to have to try Martian Successor Nadesico again, managed to stumble through the first disc then jumped onto something else.

It's definitely worth sticking through to the end; it doesn't really get a proper ending so much as kick the can down the road for a movie series that ended prematurely after the first one (I'm told) screwed over everything that was good about the show and tanked, but there's more than enough great stuff in there to make it worth the time.

Anyway, started watching through Kanon again recently and I'm impressed, after watching a couple other dating-sim/VN adaptations, how well it balances and paces material from its various plotlines to create a relatively consistent single narrative. Clannad was probably a better story overall, but most of the other characters got some degree of short-shrift in favor of the Official Couple.

Also started KonoSuba, another "gamer nerd winds up in a fantasy/RPG world" series, but one with a gleefully twisted sense of humor. If Log Horizon were The Order of the Stick, KonoSuba seems to be more along the lines of 8-Bit Theater. Damned funny.

I really liked the film version of Your Name, I think I watched it on a plane earlier thislast year. Not so thrilled at the idea of JJ Abrams getting his hands on it...

I mentioned Erased before - anybody notice the live action version on Netflix? I might be more optimistic if I hadn't tried to watch the live action version of Tokyo Ghoul on a flight earlier thislast year. Didn't work for me...

I agree wholeheartedly. I watched that in cinema not long ago. Bloody excellent!

I remember getting some episode of Lain when I hadn't really gotten into anime and I was so confused.

It's really hard to source manga and anime here so I've been leaning pretty heavily on crunchyroll, they've got the occasional nugget that isn't geofenced away from me and surprisingly netflix popped up with something decent; Blame, if you can stomach the computer animation.

Nuggets: Time of Eve (I'd seen this one before somewhere, well worth a re-watch), Kill la Kill, the animated version of DENKI-GAI (the manga is awesomely funny), and The Dragon Dentist.

Here, too, I agree. Blame was done pretty well. I recommend the manga, too.

I decided to start watching one of the all time classics: Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Should be an interesting time.

It's a good anime except for the fact I know a shitload of socialists who like it.
