Anyone know some decent shops...

Unread postby Darkstar » Thu Nov 05, 2009 12:37 am

...in or around Kyoto that sell old (vintage) computers? It'll be some time until I get to Akiba so I thought I could maybe find something here. But the shops I found only sell used consoles and games, which is great too (I'm thinking of getting a PC-FX and a NeoGeo :D) but I'd rather find some Sharp/Fujitsu computer goodness...

Any ideas/hints?

So you like FMV games and digital comic books then ;)

Can't go wrong with a Neo Geo though (any of them; AES/MVS/NGP/NGPC/HNG64...)

I guess you're looking for an X68000? ... I wouldn't mind one of those myself, or an MSX Turbo R.....

Well, the Neo Geo games are still pretty expensive over here (saw some for over 24000yen which is about 200euro) but they can be as cheap as 900yen (some crappy fighting game... in fact it seems that this system has *only* fighting games, at least that's all I see here...)

I wouldn't mind getting an X68000, X1, FmTowns or MSX... but so far I still haven't found any of them. Shipping them will also be a pain in the butt I guess... I heard that for example X68000 Systems use some rare video refresh rate which only very few monitors can handle, so I'd have to ship a CRT around as well *sigh*

Most games use the 31KHz refresh rate (VGA) as long as you pick up a VGA adapter with the machine. A few games do use 15KHz; for those cases you'd need a multisync monitor that can scan that low (most games that default to 15KHz have a 31KHz option). You can probably find a suitable monitor locally in any case.

15KHz screen modes should work on most european TV's made in the last 20+ years, as long as you have RGB+CSync signals and a SCART socket.

For non-fighting games on the Neo I can heartily reccomend Pulstar and Blazing Star - two awesome horizontal shooters. And you can't forget about the Metal Slug series!

I'll have to look into some of those - I have a NeoGeo arcade cabinet myself.
