I'm really interested in how I can use my Octane2 for the creation of abstract computer generated animations.

It seems that most of the usual graphics apps are intended as achieving more and more realistic modeled images and animations, while I want to dabble with creating obviously artificial computer generated pieces.

Maybe the issue is me, rather than the software ?

Below are some links to examples of the styles I'm referring to. Could Blender/Maya/Houdini be used to create this type of stuff ?

I think you could do this with vvvv (http://vvvv.org but it does not run under Irix

I've been experimenting with very similar abstract ideas like what you mentioned (doc Bailey-inspired). One place to look for ideas is here: http://flam3.com/ . I've been attempting to write my own algorithms using languages like Python and Icon (both available for IRIX). I don't believe Icon is widely used, but it has a good graphics library and it works great on IRIX, at least for me, anyway. Plus, it seems to fit well with a pretty much non-programmer like myself.

I think motionloops uses the chromakey suite for it's material, which I'm sure doesn't run on Irix:

Maya (which is what I use) would work just fine for creating such-like, but is perhaps a bit of overkill...

maya and/or houdini can create everything.
only limited by your imagination and/or scripting skills

Ah!, qué bueno! ...no he probado el Miranda ViVo todavía, y vendí todo mi hard O2 salvo algunos repuestos que me quedaron ...pero hace aprox. un año compré un Octane, pero no tiene hardware the video análogo, aunque tiene dual-head.

English: Ewww!, nice! ...I've not tried the Miranda ViVo yet, and I've sold all my O2 hard excepting some spares... but since a year or so I've bought an Octane, but no analog video hardware, although it has dual-head.
