Maya Mental Ray Displacement +Refl Blur

Unread postby Intuition » Sat Feb 17, 2018 7:05 pm

I ran the Octane through some stress tests today.

I attempted tesselated displacement renders on the o2 and I think had one or two make it all the way through but most ran out of memory. Need more than 256mb for this kind of test.

The Octane has the benefit of being 64bit with 640MB ram at the moment. I keep being surprised by the feature list of old Mental Ray. It was closer in capability to Renderman than I gave it credit for at this point in the CGI era. Having the ability ray trace reflections outright... and have reflections blurring for appropriate spec vs the old fake scanline method AND have displacements is a very memory intensive and process intensive render job.

The Octane pulled them off good. I did eventually add too many to one attempt and ran out of memory. BUT here is the result.
