Eclipse problems

Unread postby hamei » Fri Jan 10, 2014 4:15 am

Is anyone running Eclipse successfully on VPro ? I know it used to be fine on MXI, but tried it recently on a V12. It starts but that's about it. Windows full of garbage, can't open files, freezes with just the window frame showing, big mess.

Was using it for a old Java project on my Tezro with no issues, I assume you are running the latest version available?

I have got the Eclipse-Demo-Software (from form&vision), which is limited to 1600x1200 images. On my former Octane/MXE it ran fine, on Octane2/Vpro the splash-screen is blank and there are errors in the software as you describe above.

I am in the Geoman camp right now. How to get over to the foetz side ?

hehe, seems that's a tricky one. let's compare the rigs, maybe we can find a common difference. mine: onyx350, v12, 6.5.30, all patches except for the one that crashes efs (7207 iirc).
maybe important: i'm using the 8bit settings because some older stuff has issues otherwise but nothing even close to what you described.

i do recall tho that i also used it with an octane2/v6. actually i don't remember ever having the mentioned issues. i don't use it much tho but since it doesn't even start right i think i'd remember such a major problem.

Same result on both a Fuel V10 and V12 and an Onyx350 w/V12 and V10. I remember it running on the Octane with an MXI.

Hmm. Where did you do that ? My frame buffer is 8 and accumulation buffer is software only, due to a lack of memory.

You would remember. It's unusable. It sort-of starts but that's about all.

ah never mind, that's not it. i tried different combinations and it always was fine.

ldd looks like:

Code: Select all

        libXsgivc.so  =>         /usr/lib/libXsgivc.so
        libC.so  =>      /usr/lib/libC.so
        libXm.so.1  =>   /usr/lib/libXm.so.1
        libXt.so  =>     /usr/lib/libXt.so
        libXext.so  =>   /usr/lib/libXext.so
        libGL.so  =>     /usr/lib/libGL.so
        libX11.so.1  =>  /usr/lib/libX11.so.1
        libXi.so  =>     /usr/lib/libXi.so
        libGLU.so  =>    /usr/lib/libGLU.so
        libm.so  =>      /usr/lib/libm.so
        libgen.so  =>    /usr/lib/libgen.so
        libc.so.1  =>    /usr/lib/libc.so.1
        libGLcore.so  =>         /usr/lib/libGLcore.so

so mine is o32. maybe you don't have the classic LD_LIBRARY_PATH set? or maybe also set it to lib32?

yet another idea could be vswap. there's an "IncreaseVSwap" script in the bin dir. sometimes vswap is off because some programs complain while others complain about not having vswap on :P

Works on my V12/6.5.30 Octane....
Eclipse.jpg
.....but not my Tezro - though it used to, there's a sub-directory on the Tezro with files opened/editied in Eclipse.

Differences? The Tezro has been the test bed for the latest-greatest nekoware candidates, the Octane progressively less since I got the Tezro. As an example, the Tezro is running Firefox 3.0.19 (and all of the updated apps/libraries that go with FF3), while the Octane still runs 2.0.0.22pre.

ah yes, maybe something from nekoware gets in between. that'd also makes sense why it works for me because i have hardly any nekoware installed. firefox 3 does work there too tho.

on the other hand no nekoware should be part of LD_LIBRARY_PATH so it'd have to be something else except the libs.

ldd likely won't show the problem because:

I'll try running it as another user without nekoware in the path, too ...

Meanwhile, a few things ...

I'm not running EcWatch. Don't know if that matters, seems like it shouldn't ?

Made a /usr/bin/X11/netscape link to fireflop, so Help works

the scratch file is at /usr/tmp per their setup

it opens okay except the initial splash screen is blank but that could be that it's looking in the wrong place (been relocated a few times)

I can't set the cache size larger than 0. It takes the number, hit "okay", it pops up a warning "won't take effect until restarted" then a restart gives me a cache of 0 again

Restarted from a terminal, everything looks okay but if you open a file (jpeg) then it sits there forever. Terminal shows

Code: Select all

alright so under a different account it does at least come up. by that we can see that the problems are at least partially because of certain settings.
something trivial i didn't think of yet: resolution. do you run the irix default 1280x1024 or something else?
