This may or may not go over well here but I thought why not model SGI in Maya or Blender and share the file.

A lot of people here can do much, much better.
I throw this out as a challenge: Model your SGI and show it to us in this thread.

Models must be produced with SGIs.

Oh, that's a great idea.

As soon as I get my Octane2 working again I will be at it.

Otherwise, it's looking nice regan_russell, and just keep at it, practice makes perfect. :)

there is an ready Indigo model (for texturing) in inventor format if u install Open Inventor demos u can find it in /usr/share/ folder. those demos are used by open inventor and showcase as well. as i recall i exported the *.iv to *.rib then opened it in maya, but i not have at the moment any working maya install so here the *.iv files ...

what amazed me was the quite detailed robocop model  i found there, here it is although out of topic ;) let somebody says now that SGI`s are not about having fun

the Octane can be found on octane demos cd 1.1 or 1.3, also in open inventor format ? or i think was vrml ? can`t remember now but i will dive for it another day
also the "chrome skins" O2 in open inventor format can be found on Ian`s site in the benchmark part / or on O2 out of box CD and O2 demos CD ....

Great idea!

Now I need to get out those hard surface modeling tutorials and step away from my cuddly creatures!

Really nice but why is the Indy Blue...?
I have 8 Indys and all of them are kind of deep aqua, more like Octane green with the very slightest touch of blue.

Even Pentiums signature line icons are blue.

I think if you leave an indy in the sun it turns from blue to green. Kinda like how a cheap peecee goes from white to brown. But people are always going on about the bright blue indy...

This is probably what my Indigo2 looks like... I did it from memory while trying to avoid falling over power tools throughout the house and working on the house.
