dcraw

Has anyone tried this out, looks very cool.

For "developing" RAW files, looks to do an excellent job from the samples posted in some of the links.

Its now part of nekoware and you w'll find a package in our /beta directory. It needs some testing and it would be fine if you can take a look.

Actually, the beauty of the program is not what you can achieve with it but more the information about zillions different raw formats you can gather by reading the source...

Nekoware

Unread postby abagail07 » Wed Jul 12, 2006 5:35 pm

Great. I am without a machine at the moment. I am getting 3 O2's over the course of the next month, one for beer! no less. But I will definitely post feedback when I test this out. I am strictly a user, I can't even program my VCR, so it would be way cool if someone decided to do a graphical front end for this (pretty please), it has been done for mac OSX. :-)

Cheers all.

Wanting to open up RAW image files from my Nikon D3300 on IRIX.. dcraw v8.23 is part of nekoware.. but is an older version.
The DCRAW version from nekoware did not write to TIFF files.

I compiled v9.27 .. had to mod the code a bit.. and have the latest dcraw compiled for IRIX
used MIPSPRO to compile.

I only tested it by converting a RAW image from from Nikon D3300 (a NEF file) and it outputed to a nice TIFF using the -T argument. I was pleased, and stopped there to try testing it more fully at a later date. Anyone else can help out testing it too.. The mods I made are all basic.. but one mod I had to comment out a line during the TIFF creation.. I assumed it would be a negative mod but it didn't seem to affect anything (yet).

Ill create a tardist later updating the nekoware version, when time permits. For now, you can just swap out your /usr/nekoware/bin/dcraw or place this somewhere else in your PATH.

Code: Select all

$ ./dcraw

A truly excellent program. Preferred this over something like UFRaw any day. I last had a little flirt with it about 5 years ago and it took all the Canon, Nikon and Olympus raw formats. Easy source to follow, great for shoehorning in to your own 'digital photo workflow'.

I will test this myself too. The ability to process Nikon RAW outside of the ViewNX2 would be useful. Thanks.

I used it years ago when I had PowerPC Macs only (my Nikon D7000 is the first generation of camera not supported by Apple's RAW thing on Mac OS X 10.5).

It is a great tool and I bet the most skilled ones here could write a very nice graphical front-end for it.
