(solved) Illustrator for Irix

Unread postby def13 » Mon Aug 14, 2017 1:33 pm

Hello,
I'm Def13 from Marseille, France ... and completly new on Irix and SGI.
I bought and SGI Octane 1.5 two month ago and instead of boring people by newbie's questions, I looked for the answers by myself ... Thanks Nekochan to exist ! But now I touch my limits.

So my first question is about Illustrator 5.5.1 for Irix. I can't find any info about the way to install the sn (not sure about the one I've got) or the license.

It could be great to find someone could help me install that.

Note : strangely, it were easier to solve the Display Police System NX issues and all the conflicts with Photoshop ...

This is skirting a bit close to the rules of the site (see the yellow notice at the top of the page), but if you have a license, it is added to the /var/flexlm/license.dat file.

Do you have a license for Illustrator 5.5.1 (bought previously or installed on the Octane) but are you unsure how to install it, or are you asking for a license?
The latter is not permitted, as per our forum rules (in red).

I understand it's a "border line" subject, even if we're speaking about vintage computing and vintage graphic design for a personnal use... Perhaps someone could give me a solution by pm ?

I've got an old sn writen on an old Adobe cd package...

Then i assume there are instructions on the CD filesystem or accompanying booklet on how to enter the license.
But if the licensing entails contacting Adobe support to create a license file online for use with your octane, then you probably are out of luck since Adobe have stopped supporting licensing on IRIX platforms for a long time.

Exact Dexter1! Too familiar to read PDF, I don't pay attention to "getstart.ps"... I found what I'm looking for. But I'm afraid I have to "use" Illustrator has trial version, because I've got no idea about what I have to write in the "server line" entry. Infos on the cover of this cd are not complete :-(

As you write I don't have to hope help from Adobe. They do what they want with their softwares licenses... It would be so great to find an office contact for vintage commercial softwares.

Thanks for giving me a way to find an info.

Sometime around 2000 I sent Adobe my Illustrator and Photoshop S/Ns (they MUST include the -xxx at the end), and the hostid of my Webforce Indy, and they faxed me license keys.

Somehow I doubt this process still works. But you might start there.

In Sun jargon you have an RTU license (Rights-to-Use) which permits you to get a valid license file or the product keys for the FLM.
Because FLM ist proprietary SW there are maybe other ways to give it a try but you need some programming skills, deeper knowledge and an SDK depending on the FLM version used for Illustrator.

BTW: I saw a photo in this forum showing a "dicreet" box standing on top of an Adobe box of Illustrator 5 Upgrade for SPARC, NIB. Mmm, like to get in touch with the box... SW p*** ;-)

I remember, I got an official license for SPARCompiler C 2.0.1 even in 2010 or so but before.
Sun Solaris 2.4 @ SPARCstation 2 and SNI PCD-4H. Migration path: NetBSD
