CPU Panic?

Unread postby Darkhelmet2002 » Sun Aug 20, 2017 7:32 pm

I have a dual R12K 300MHz Octane with Irix 6.5 running on it. It has worked flawlessly until this evening, after I had been logged in for a few hours, it went to the PROM menu and said;
PANIC: CPU 1: init died (why = 2, what = 0x9)
NOTICE - cpu 0 didn't dump TLB, may be hung
Reboot started from CPU 1
CPU 1 rebooting
I no longer can boot into irix successfully, it gets to the PROM menu after diagnostics, clicks, and goes to the above screen. Any suggestions on what I need to do to get a successful boot?

Welcome,

So the diagnostics do run fine? No CPU errors? If that is the case and the machine still refuses to boot, maybe you should:
- try checking the env variables in the PROM command line.
- try checking the disk with fx and look for any signs of problems.
- try to boot miniroot from network or an install CD and inspect the drive.

If the CPU has developed a fault, then either diagnostics or the miniroot will abort or panic sometime, somewhere.

Yup, diagnostics say there is no problems, and when I just tried to boot it I got a different message than the first time;

PANIC: CPU 1: init died (why = 2, what = 0x9)
NOTICE - cpu 0 didn't dump TLB, may be hung
WARNING: CPU 0 hasn't seen a scheduler clock interrupt in 12 seconds, EPC 0xa800
000020175828, RA: 0xa800000020175828
Probably caused by splprof or sp17 delaying the interrupt
CPU 1 rebooting
CPU 0 rebooting

I checked env variables and they were all fine, so does that mean I have a disk problem then?
Thanks for the suggestions!
