Hi,

After many unsuccessful struggles, include lacking of sled, finally mount the non bootable o2 disk onto a octance machine via Sun 711 enclosure.

First thing first was to reset the root password.

Then I can see o2 files but I do not know what exactly shall I examine the non bootable problem as I can not find sash, ide etc that I saw under the command line of diagnostic console.

Secondly, where the application software was installed? Is it the /bin or /var as for windows of program files folder?

I am completely novice to unix, thanks for you advice.

There are 16 partitions on each disk. Usually the only ones that are defined are partition 0, root; partition 1, swap; and partition 8, the volume header.
sash is kept in the volume header, which is not mounted in Irix. You can use the

Code: Select all

dvhtool -v list /dev/rdsk/sc1d1vh

command to see the files in the volume header.

Applications in Unix spread their files around multiple places, which is why tools like versions are so useful to see what is installed, based on the history of the inst and swmgr installer programs. The directories that programs sometimes make their homes under are /usr and /opt. /bin is for the most basic command line tools, and /var is for mailboxes and logfiles.

Thanks.
I tried and I got similar information from the command console under diagnostic with a little bit more for the length and block.

Is there anything particular strange from this volume header?

I only fell the disk spinning up periodically but reading is normal.

Turns out to be a ram issue. All set after removing after market ram.

Congratulations, and good that you got it solved.

These errors are hard to fix, and if you can't run IDE to diagnose the component then there is little left to try, except for swapping components and hoping you find the bad bunny.
