HP CD Writer 9600 (SCSI) Problem

So I bought this drive and it refuses to read my IRIX disks. I set the ID to 3, used an HD50 to HD68 cable (known working) to hook it to my Octane, and tried boot -f dksc(1,3,8)sash64 It outputs this error string in the images I've posted below.

Tried on my O2 as well without success - same error message just not repeated. Should I assume the drive is broken?

It appears the drive can't use a 512 byte sector setting. I don't think MMC3 requires it.

Probably no. You'd better (my advice) buy a Plextor CDRW or Yamaha.
They are cheap ( < 50 USD ), and they're known to work on SGI.

Unfortunately I don't have for sale, sorry =(

So I pulled my drive out of the case and took the toshiba from my O2 out and put it in the thing and it works,so at least I know that the drive is the problem. I'm gonna find another drive from HP that can fit this.
