Hello, all,
I picked up an SGI Octane and have an external SCSI CD-ROM and the IRIX 6.5 CDs. This is a machine that I purchased second-hand and I would like to re-install the OS.
I was trying to follow the guide, but on boot there is no "stop for maintenance" option... it just goes straight through the boot procedure and ends up on a login screen.
Is there any hope?
Thanks in advance!

First thing that I might try is to pull the hard drives. If there's no drive to boot from, it has to stop to ask what to do. From there, you can get to the PROM console and disable auto-boot. Shut back down, put the drives back in, and go from there.

If there's a PROM password you're in for an interesting saga.
But welcome anyways.

Also, you don't need to click stop for maintenance. Just press the ESC key, right after it boots, it will take you to the same screen. Also, welcome to Nekochan!
