I think I've seen 814-*-* as well, for disc sets, e.g. "IRIX 6.4 for Onrigin, Onyx, ..." which would be 1 OS disc, 1 Apps disc and a booklet.

Quarter inch tapes start with 801-*-*, a tape distribution (tape(s) + printer relnotes) starts with 806-*-*. I'll see if I can produce a list of my tapes.

Oh, and no "definitive" list is complete without merging in this: http://www.sgistuff.net/collection/software/index.html

You mean like this? I've merged everything but the Pipeline stuff in, and I think that's a good place for me to stop for now. The Pipeline part numbers don't look sane (Probably because the same part numbers kept getting used from 91-97), so I'll leave that to someone who is more qualified. I also briefly considered merging some stuff from Ian's SGI Depot, but his CDs aren't in order, so I'll leave that to someone with more patience.

I made up a spreadsheet of my IRIX CDs last year. I just uploaded it to Google Docs; if there's anything in there that needs to be added to the wiki, feel free.

That's a pretty impressive collection of CDs. Thanks for taking the time and effort to add the info to the wiki.

Can I ask why you located your articles (and a separate table of contents) inside your 'User Page? Your contributions would be easier for other users of the wiki to locate if it were added to the existing/similar Media Product Number article. Ditto for your "Legalize Model Number" page, which could be added to the SGI Model Numbers article.

I recently asked for some help on this list and got a big listing of part numbers from a former SGI employee, so lots more was added today.

Sorry, I thought I responded to this earlier. I simply wanted to keep track of CDs for myself, in particular which ones I had archived so that when I see them on ebay or wherever I would know if I was interested or not. It seemed like it might be useful to others, so I decided to put it on the wiki here, but in my user space.

The model numbers are in even worse shape than the CD part numbers in that there are better places on the net where such information is recorded for various machines and I haven't yet consolidated that into a useful reference.

Code: Select all

$ cat cds.txt | sort -k1 | uniq -i | awk '{ if (prev != $1) { prev = $1; print $0; } }' > cds-nodup.txt

Generates this file:
cds-nodup.txt

Entries are sorted by part number, with duplicate part numbers removed. Still needs a human to prettify the output, though :)

Updated the list again from the attachemnt.

I have a software library sealed, part number 013-2478-012 REV A
I don't want to break the seal unless it's something I need. Does anyone have any info on this?

Cheers

Wiki time! http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/User:Legal ... rt_Numbers
Actually not listed but Legalize states that the 013- numbers are used for box sets of IRIX releases.

On Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/2816753383 ... rmvSB=true we learn that it's IRIX 6.5.12 release. Makes sense since the last three digits are 012

I believe that is the base IRIX distribution. -014 is 6.5.12, so -012 might be 6.5.10 if the part numbers have any sequencing to them.

Yeah, OK, that makes more sense that -012 is 6.5.12. From somewhere I got the information that -014 was 6.5.14, but it was probably from ebay and that's not always accurate.

I think these smaller "software library" ones are the incremental OS updates from the base 6.5 release. There are larger software library box sets that represent everything you need to scratch install IRIX.

I've got a 013-2478-001 rev A here and that's a full installation set ( ~ 15 discs?) of IRIX 6.5. It may have come with 6.5.1 overlays originally as well, I have/had quite a few of those.
