The glass floor showcasing sand below, the pod-like monitor stands, the neo-Space Age stools - THIS was a y2k space.
I love stuff like this.

Very cool indeed! They had the right idea, go big or go home, shame it didn't pan out for them...

I very, very vaguely remember this. It was the stuff of reading through magazines at Chapters while the parents were elsewhere in the store. The place looked amazing and California was still thousands of kilometers away. It was the legendary Pokemon Center store in Tokyo.
I am not entirely surprised it ultimately imploded like that. Shame really, but it smells strongly of a lot of ultra modern ventures in the midst of the .com era.

Edited: In a way this reminds me of all the cool TV packages from the early 2000's. Biography Channel, Animal Planet, History Channel, TLC, Discovery channel. An attempt to diversify what was on TV but 15 years later it's now "the Storage Wars Channel" or "How I married a 3ft midget" and "The Hoarders Channel".

I've always appreciated how much Sony lives the Taguchi mantra of no defects.
