I'm not a camera buff, but I thought this photo essay about Hasselblad's camera assembly process was pretty interesting:

Huh, they've just got the thing smeared with Kapton tape! Maybe they take the tape off before final assembly? Seems weird, I don't think there's any adhesive tape that actually ages gracefully...

I've always wanted a medium format Hasselblad 501 or 503. Every year I think I am finally going to get a 503. I am hoping to grab one by this summer. Still quite a few really nice condition, mint/near mint ones in Japan of all places.

Good old precision manual work. I love it.
I wouldn't mind one.

Thanks for posting the link, had a good read on the train today.

I've always wanted a 500 C/M, just love the design. Film stock is a problem though...

I have no issue sourcing 120 film and shoot it regularly (no such luck for 220, but nbd). Everybody except for Fuji has gone through a bankruptcy, but the machinery and people emerge in much smaller companies (often with the same name) and are generally run by passionate enthusiasts (e.g. Ilford or Adox nee Agfa) or at least people who are committed to film (Kodak).

Gosh, if only SGI could have gone through a similar bankruptcy...
