Shades of Gray

Unread postby Oskar45 » Sun Feb 19, 2017 8:53 am

Hype? I've neither read the books nor seen the movies. I don't intent to do so. Seem to be junk. But you might have a different opinion. Comments?

Actually, anyone recalls Billy Barber's 1984 album ''Shades of Gray" (sic!)? While stylistically quite different from Keith Jarrett, it is great piano-solo jazzy stuff at its best!

It's basically a fanfiction originally that was reworked into an original story. It portrays nothing like a real BDSM relationship, I have friends in that scene, and it's just amounting to porn for women with retarded BDSM-like fantasies without ever having experienced it.

Second is better than the first so I heard, which couldn't have been hard to achieve (excuse the pun).

The main male character seems to sexually abuse the woman with mind games in the first one.

I much prefer American Psycho (2000) , at least you knew where he was coming from and he did it with such style and in such an entertaining way.

My impression watching the first movie (hotel room with nothing else on) is it's not explicit enough for the folks who want porn, it's not hot enough for the folks who want erotica, and it's not good enough for the folks who want anything besides. I went to bed early about halfway through.

I can't imagine the second would be any better.
smit happens.

The Bridges of Madison County; good movie out of a bad book. Shades of Gray franchise, bad movies out of a good book... 8-)

My god, if you honestly call the Fifty Shades waste-of-paper a "good book", I don't even dare to imagine what you would call "bad".

Yes, I've read the books - you can't comment on something you haven't read, isn't it - and it's the shallowest possible boring housewife's would-be soft pornography written in an English that is so dumbed down that if it weren't for the topic itself, a 10 year old could read it. Luckily, because of the primary school complexity of the writing, I only lost one afternoon on it.

It's crap. Serious, utter crap. It's so bad I actually think the films must be better than the books.

I was going to say Shades of Gray franchise, bad movies out of a bad book but I thought it would balance the teeter-totter better the other way. You do agree that Bridges of Madison County is a good movie though, right? And I'm in no way a "chick flick" kind of guy...

Don't confuse 50 Shades of Gray with Jasper Fforde's "Shades of Grey" which is (IMO) f***ing fantastic.
