Oooh. Find one of the Sonnet upgrades for that thing. Who did the Verax fans? I need to get around to replacing the fans in my own MDD.

I'm not sure who did the fans, but I purchased the computer from a gentleman in Germany, had to drive there to pick it up. It was his main computer until earlier this year, a designer, so it is fully maxed up. It came with 1x ~256GB SSD and 1x ~128GB.

I was looking for a OS 9 machine, and it's hard to find a decent TiBook these days, so I got the dual 867 thinking it would be quiet, but it is an awful machine to use. So I start looking threads in random forums and there were many mentions of the German Verax fans. This seems to be one of them. I don't know much else beyond what I found in forums and going to the manufacturer's page using wayback machine. It is an impressively well built kit.

Now the machine went from being louder than my 285 to being almost inaudible when under the desk.

And yes, I have my eBay alerts set for the Sonnets, but I know the endeavor can take a few years, just as long as finding my 285 took. But maybe I will get lucky soon. =)

Whole-house FM transmitter. Currently have shenanigans with a larger antenna for better coverage. Don't tell the FCC.

It was something like $80CDN, I'm willing to bet it's all plastic and the seals will likely fail after a year but I just want something to replace the last RoofCam that lasted barely three months before committing suicide and the X axis gearbox burned itself up.

Update: Today I learned that "AHD" is a thing and it is NOT compatible with composite video.....
So now I have to buy an adapter that converts the AHD video stream to composite, which will set me back another $75.

A RadioSHARK 2 with the better radio receiver chip (I hope). Then the G4 will do simulcasting of the radio on the in-house FM transmitter so that we can use the radios as, you know, radios when they're not playing audio playlists.

I just received a Sun Ultra2 workstation. I think it's got a Creator3D (as opposed to the regular, non-3D Creator) card in there. In either case it's a series 1 card, so not the greatest graphics but at least it works. Surprisingly even the NVRAM/battery works! The machine came with no hard drive (just one bracket; I have spare drives) but did have 2 x 300MHz CPUs and 512MB of RAM in 4 x 128MB DIMMs leaving plenty of slots to spare. I've only had it for a matter of hours and have only powered it up long enough to check functionality and the specs. So far I'm very happy with it. It's in pretty rough cosmetic shape (no top cover, for instance) but for $80 including shipping half way across Canada and the applicable taxes it's not a bad configuration and it's fully working. Christmas came early to me!

I'll be spending some time on the weekend installing an OS (probably Solaris 8 ) on it and testing it out some more. I'm very much looking forward to some quality vintage computing time!

Ultra 2s are one of my favorite SUN worksations.
dual 300mhz should be able to run Solaris 10 btw if you have enough memory.. maybe ditch the gnome/JDS desktop for WindowMaker from OpenCSW packages to be more performant.
Plus, GemRB has been compiled on Solaris 10 and I have had it running well on an Ultra 2 and you can play some Baldurs Gate, Planescape Torment, and/or IceWind Dale RPGs! If only GemRB existed back in early 2000s.. playing those games on SPARC desktops of the time would have been a sight to see.

An Amiga 1200 that was about to go to the scrapper. It boots to a floppy prompt even if a floppy is inserted. It's corroded on the RF so I removed the RF shielding completely, scrubbed the board down with a mix of Barkeeper's friend, Windex, and then rinsed it with water several times, and followed up by a complete rinsing of alcohol. The floppy connector had some decay on it. We'll see if this fixed it, otherwise, I'll just throw in a Gotek and call it a day.

I don't remember non-creator Ultra 2 systems.

It's only the Ultra 1 which initially came with three SBus slots and only 10Mbit/s Ethernet, and soon were replaced with Ultra 1 Entrerprise, with two SBus slot, one Creator3D slot, and 100MBit/s Ethernet.

Elite3D m6 is available in the horizontal UPA form factor and was supported by Sun in the Ultra2. I've also seen Ultra2s on eBay with TurboGX cards in an SBus slot and the UPA slot empty. I have no idea if that configuration was ever available from Sun, but it's common on the used market these days from what I've seen.

However, my point was about which of the different cards in the "Creator" family I have. There were plain "Creator" and different "Creator3D" cards which added more memory, z-buffering, etc. Each of those were available in Series 1 (aka FFB1), Series 2 (aka FFB2), and Series 3 (aka FFB2+) which got faster and added more features over time. Creator3D Series 2 and 3 also support higher resolutions (e.g., 1920x1200) than the other cards. There's also the side issue of horizontal (as in the Ultra2) and vertical (as used in the Ultra10 and higher machines) form factors for UPA making for a whole lot of cards in the family. Creator and Creator3D Series 1 cards were only horizontal. Non-3D Creator Series 2 and 3 cards were only available in vertical form factor. Creator3D Series 2 and 3 plus Elite3D m6 were available in both form factors. Sun supported all of the following (and maybe others) in the Ultra2 according to my research: Creator Series 1, Creator3D Series 1, Creator3D Series 2, Creator3D Series 3, and Elite3D m6.

I'm pretty sure I have Creator3D, and certain it's Series 1. I've spent far, far too much time reading the Sun Frame Buffer FAQ lately trying to figure all this out!

You found an A1200? In the US? In 2017? Jeez, you find everything!

I've seen piles of C64s, C64Cs, and C128s but I've yet to find an Amiga, which is a shame because while I have a PAL A1200 I'd also like to get an A500.
