Re: your latest purchase

Picked up some boxed software and a stack of about 16 Indy systems from an old Russian Jew's warehouse in Brooklyn. He bought it from the Acclaim bankruptcy more than a decade ago and it's been collecting dust on his shelves ever since.

Adobe Photoshop 1.0 and 2.5, boxed
Adobe Illustrator 3, boxed
4x Maya 1.0, boxed
Softimage|3D 2.66 and 3.0, boxed
Alias|Wavefront PowerAnimator 7, Advanced Visualizer 4.2.1, discs in cardboard sleeves
Nichimen N-World 3, boxed

I've already started selling some of it on eBay, but I'll keep one of the Maya 1.0 boxes and the Soft 3D stuff. As for the Indys, I'll probably part most of them out and keep a half-dozen to use as a render farm someday. They all have the original hard drives, which could contain some art assets and other interesting goodies :)

Got one too! Much better than the MS-20 Mini.

Oh, I like my MS-20 Mini quite a bit, but they're such different beasts in terms of sonic character and feature sets. The MS-20's all about the gnarly weird techno sounds, while the Odyssey is just a big bundle of retro goodness.

Now I just gotta save up for that reproduction Minimoog that was just announced...

I had two MS-20's, sold the 2nd one. I found the sound limiting due to the filter's rather lackluster sound. Also not a big fan of the semi-modular architecture - give me full modular or give me death!!

Picked up a Roland SH-09 on the cheap due to some cosmetic issues, but it's in perfect working order so what do I care :) This thing is fat. Big, buttery filter (I understand now what people think it is they're getting out of the SH-101, but there's a world of difference here) and a kickass sub-oscillator. Looking forward to having some fun with this :)

Saw one being used onstage by Acid Mothers Temple several years ago. Very nice mono synth

I'm not sure what the last thing was. Bicycle "inner tubes," and some other bits to try and make my craptastic bike ridable, to get around town and maybe shed some weight.

A Beaglebone Black is probably the last computational widget. No synths here, sorry...

My last mixer went tits up last week. It was analog with a bajillion cables, time for something simpler; digital, Behringer X32, it's ca-razy programmable everything with motorized faders too!

i7 4960X for a video editing build, though finding an HD PCIe capture card is proving a real pain, every product I check seems to have terrible feedback wrt reliability, driver issues, etc.

skywriter, is that your audio setup?? My jaw actually dropped. :D

Mapesdhs, yeah that's one corner of it. Here's some other shots. It's grown up a little since these pix were taken :-)

It's 2 MS20-minis. I thought I would cut them up and rack mount the control surfaces, but I wasn't enamored with the sound of two enough to compromise the resale value. As a result, I sold one. The real drawn jewel, is the little patty II, with four slim phatty's that can be combined for 5-note polyphony. Moog poly is just deliciously good :-)

*drool!!*

Sigh... all I have are three guitars, a few effects units and a Casio CZ-1000 that doesn't work properly (bad samples chip or something). OTOH I wouldn't have the space to set anything up even if I did have some decent kit. I don't even have one of my fave pieces of tech on display, an Enterprise 128 complete with tape unit, floppy, etc.

Btw, anyone know where rambo is these days? He created these:

He had an impressive collection of synth kit, but alas his web site is gone now.

Ian.

A flat field, low distortion eyepiece for some better views of Mars and Saturn. Not that it's particularly high up in the sky, but it's my first proper Mars opposition since the arrival of the telescope.
