Re: your latest purchase

I picked up a SparcStation IPC that Classichasclass put up for sale at VCF West over the weekend, though I need to get a VGA/PS/2 adapter for it before I'll be able to do much. But the real score this weekend was picking up a freaking DK Synergy! I got it on the cheap because it has a couple issues (the bottom key is missing a plastic actuator doohickey and just sits limply in depressed position, and keys once pressed won't release,) but given that basically everything except the keybed is commodity parts (or at least was at the time - be interesting if I have to source a replacement for, say, the 2112 256x4 SRAMs,) I'm confident that I'll be able to get it back in working order :) Even has an all-wood case with a classy piano finish...

Got a fellow on 68kMLA to nab me a DECMate II from a huge vintage-computer sale in down in Orange County. Now I just need to get it shipped up my way :)

Interestingly, this means I now have one of every major DEC computer line except the PDP-10...

Give me your PDP-12.
You don't need it. ;)

Well, I was counting the PDP-8 line as a whole, and as I understand it the 12 is part of that...?

Anyway, I was referring to the 8, the 11, the VAX, and the Alpha :D Although I could be mistaken, I don't think the 18-bit machines were A. a coherent line, or B. a major one (I know the PDP-1 was historically important and sold reasonably well, but were any of the other 18-bitters more than a footnote in the company history?)

A 12 doesn't look anything like an 8.

There were 4 types of 10: KA, KI, KLA, KLB. The last two were known variously as DECsystem 10 and 20; blue highboy and orange lowboy cabs respectively.

Eh? All the sources I'm reading say that a 12 is a LINC and a PDP-8 in a single machine.

It was, but it was so big it didn't fit even in the form factor of the straight-8.

Hence why I'm so damn committed to finding one.

Well, getting back to small systems, I just landed a Motorola 8120 (25MHz 88100 -- yes, it's an 88K). It's in transit and will arrive with SysV and a blank root password. First order of business will be to convert it to a SCSI2SD ASAP.
smit happens.
