Am I mistaken or is the current discussion quite a bit OT?

We can't even build a train in California while Oklahoma is hell-bent on teaching Creationism. Oh sure, technology will save us.

Who is this we you speak of?

I do not think the problems you bring up have to do with technology and more to do with surplus humans who have run up against a lack of social positions; you got to be a fundamentalist (government, religion, etc.) busy body to prove your worth to the echo chamber.

Tech isn't the only way out, but it has happened before. Ehrlich v. Borlaug.

The gravity well we are at the bottom of, with a lid of Van Allen Belt on top, is a rather significant barrier to human progress. Are we not mammals? Of course, I left out the part where the other mice would gladly pull you back in to the cage if it gave them a social role to fill.

Oskar45 wrote:Am I mistaken or is the current discussion quite a bit OT?

It is a constant struggle for us to find roles to fill, so I am being a busy body. Or, I could just claim that the IRIX EOL is a microcosm for human civilization. Either way :P

I'll drink to that! 8-)

I guess what I would say is that humans have a bit better track record of solving problems than trapped rats, and with regard to overpopulation, that's just not a problem at all yet, according to the National Geographic, if standing shoulder to shoulder the entire 7 billion population of the world would fit into an area the size of Los Angeles.

To place this firmly back on topic, what shall we raise in honor of IRIX EOL Day?

We will need at least 6.5 ounces of something...

How about we all undertake to 'make' something for IRIX and share it with the community by January 2014? Compile something, write a script, update a wiki page, bake a cube-logo shaped cake. I dunno, anything goes as long as it's IRIX-related and of (potential) use to the nekochan community.

Are you ready for another project ? Every time I do something you, duck, Shade and jp end up doing all the work :D

Excellent. Let's take all the people who work for National Geographic and stuff them into a single four-door clown car for the rest of their lives and see how they feel about overpopulation then. They are full of it.

Only a short backcomment. Actually, the vast majority of all species ever living on Earth had died out without mankind's helpful hand. But granted - nowadays we sure provide very active euthanasia for the still living ones...

6.5 ounces of vodka, your choice of uni, dual, or quad olives, chilled blueberry juice and mint-leaves with orange garnish.

Jesus, you guys. You pour the vodka in a water glass and drink it. Break a lude in half for starters, do a line or two to get your oil warmed up, hit the dance floor running, grab the nicest knockers and head out to the van for a quicky.

Blueberry juice, give me a break

I thought it seemed appropriate given the design of the hardware. All the cool kids drink that stuff today. mojitos come to mind.
