It appears that some real progress has been made regarding mechanical movements! Just look at the frequency on that thing!

I picked up a Hot Wheels Cyber Racer yesterday. Slapped in a set of new batteries and it works fine...besides the games it has a clock "app". I had never seen one before. I've recently become a HW fan because of my 3yr old son.

my daily drivers are the Tutima DI300 and Sinn 142, both titanium watches.

i had a bit of a heureka moment regarding that material years back and can not wear steel anymore. restricts one's choices quite a bit. still, i have a Tudor Pelagos incoming and there are plans for an IWC but that's for next year.

I'm a titanium freak as well (I even have a titanium ice-pickle). While my daily driver for the last 15 years is an Audemars-Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronographe Titanium, I also own an IWC Porsche Design Chronographe in titanium from the 80's (the original - which had 'Titan' engraved on the bracelet). Might not be easy to get that now anymore, though.

Oskar, it's still possible to score the original IWC Porsche Design, they are not that rare. the design had more class than most of what PD comes up with these days.
it's way too small for me though. around 44mm needed here. my IWC desirables are the recently phased-out ingenieur and current aquatimer models. it'll have to be one of those but i can't stand the current trend of selling a piece of bicycle tire as a wrist strap. titanium bracelets are thin on the ground but a must for comfort.

Used to wear a Casio G-shock with WWVB radio timecode receiver. It stopped picking up the signal when I switched coasts, so I stopped wearing a watch for a few years.

Past year or more, as I cede more and more of my life to AAPL, I've been wearing an iPod Nano in a watch band. I like the animated gears in this particular clockface. But that aside, I had hoped for more touch-enabled apps...

I don't wear a watch anymore (I used to wear a solar powered Casio G-Shock with WWVB automatic time synchronization too, and it may even be the same model as smj's), but I do have a CSS Time Machine 1000A which provides a GPS-based time source over NTP.

Never had a Casio that was solar powered. That would have been the replacement, had I not seen the Tik Tok watch band for the Nano (a very early Kickstarter project).

At the moment I've got a Trimble Acutime 2000 GPS receiver waiting for me to pair it with something running NTP. I've got a similar HP/Symmetricom "timing antenna" with no cable somewhere, and a small stack of bare credit card-sized Motorola GPS receivers that were supposed to get hacked into Soekris net4501 boxes. Some old Kinemetrics 468-DC GOES time receivers out back, and an GOES antenna and Symmetric NTS100 might be lurking in storage. Somebody hacked up a way to feed those GOES receivers so you could use them as displays, but it depended on some Parallax parts that aren't common any more.

But I would like a GPS receiver paired with one of those oven controlled 10MHz oscillators (OCXO) and have my eye on some parts on ePay. The HP Z38xxA units are almost always going for stupid money, but I've got my eye on some other possibilities...

I was actually still using a nike sportband up until last week... and when nike worsened their website *again*... and broke smashrun compatability. ... Fenix 5. Still have grandpa's old forerunner 201 which tho obsolete still works. That fossil probably helped sway my decision.

Unlike an applewatch (which I tried for a few months in early 2016), this has GPS, battery that lasts more than a few days (much, much, longer), software that was not written by toddlers, real buttons and no cheap touchscreen, and not held together with glue. Unlike the forerunner this one can actually masquerade as a regular digital watch.

For the record, time is set via GPS.

Don't call it a 'smartwatch'.

Very nice, the Garmin watch is awesome. Far better than it's Apple counterpart.

The Apple's a toy and that's a proper tool.
