Having used both the DECmouse and the puckmouse, I would use the puckmouse any day. I just don't like how swollen the DECmouse feels.
smit happens.

I've got a Logitech trackball sitting in my desk at work, I tried it years ago but couldn't get used to it, but based on what you guys are saying I'm going to give it another go. Been using one of these for the past 15 years, I like it but it's basically destroyed both my arms:

There are: 1 rackmount tezro, 1 rackmount Onyx350+Vpro, 1 G2n-brick and the rest are origin 350.
Last rack has a rx2660, a pair of alphaservers ds25 and a es47, and finally an IBM p520 power6.

Cheers!

mia: That's a frightening amount of storage! What's up with that?

I always liked the round DEC mice, and while the "whirlagig" Hawley mice were cool, they always seemed like they were a bit lightweight and frail. Earlier versions used a traditional rubber coated ball IIRC, which gave the whole device more of a solid feel.

Liked the old Sun (sun-3/4 era) optical mice okay shape-wise, but requiring the mirror pad was a pain. These were rebadged from Mouse Systems by Sun and several others.

But probably my favorite PC mouse from this era was the Logitech C7. While most folks in the PC/Mac space were busy shouting about whether it was better to cut off one or both of your arms (Edit: meaning 1 vs. 2 buttons), this let you quietly get on with business...

We have the same taste in wooden floors :)

Going to be toasty in the if you fire up that storage, never mind the rest. Or is there a big A/C unit just outside the picture?

a-HA! So you *did* get one! :)

I second jan-jaap: I hope you have a good A/C unit ...

Thank you smj, jan-jaap, vishnu, ClassicHasClass,

Glad to see you appreciate my little setup.

To answer your questions, the storage is used in two ways:

* every server is diskless (mips, ia64, x86, x86_64, power6, alpha), they all boot either with bootp+nfs (mips, x86, x86_64), or fiber channel (ia64, alpha) or iscsi (power6). Everything boots from the netapps; this makes it very straight-foward to backup (even when the said server is down) to the rackmounted lto6 drive you might have spotted on the picture.
* software builds and testing (stress/load tests).

About A/C, I live in a part of the world where this isn't necessary, unless I turn everything on at the same time (which I never do) there is no need for A/C. Believe me, this is true.

What is left to be done, for which I budget about 1 year of work, as I have to do this when time allows:

* rewire network, get a pair of switches.
* rack and rewire the brocade 200E.
* upgrade UPS, although this seems unnecessary at this time, it would be nice.
* wire the pair of onyx2, which I didn't yet wire and the few deskside tezros and prism and displays.

I seldom admit that I use openvms more than irix those days, although, I forecast that this trend will change in a near future as I have some unfinished work on irix that's past due.

Nice work on having all the servers setup to run diskless. I've often thought of doing that sort of thing with the machine of the moment, but in the end never bothered to see it through.

Nice space Jimmer. And double kudos if it's still that neat and clean after a few days... ;)
