most senseless malt beverage ever...

Unread postby MisterDNA » Thu Oct 12, 2006 12:08 pm

Today I walked into a local store and saw Steel Reserve on a shelf in the beer section. This was remarkable since Steelie has an alcohol content of something like 8% by volume. I had thought maybe Utah wasn't a 3.2% state anymore. Fat chance of that.

Now, Steelie isn't a beer one drinks for the purpose of having a good beer. You drink Steelie for one reason only--to get utterly ripped.

This Steelie was a 3.2% imposter. I bought a 24oz can. Just finished it. It's easier to drink than the regular stuff, but since you have to drink twice as much (3.2% by weight is 4% by vol), it's not worth it at all.

I say no thanks. I'll spend the extra $.50 at a state liquor store to have the real thing.

Dude, when the hell are you going to leave Utah once and for all?

You may be able to get this stuff imported from CA or from a local store that isnt retarded: http://www.stonebrew.com/og/2005/. If they dont have OG (11.26% by vol. baby, yeah!), you could always grab a Double Bastard (10%).

Unfortunately the local brewery doesnt sell its barley wine year round (15.3% by vol.) which is a god damned shame.

Old E and rockstar 21's are pretty good too...

Rockstar 21s are here in 3.2 form. I can go across the border to Evanston, WY and get almost anything.

I like Arrogant Bastard. A lot. I wish I had gotten one of the 3 quart bottles I saw at BevMo in Costa Mesa. $60 and would have made a killer coin bottle when empty.

I'm going to start homebrewing. There's no limit on alcohol content that way. Plus I have a family recipe that's supposed to knock your socks off.

I'll be heading back to CA for a visit in Nov. I'll stock up when I'm there. I still owe Darby at KBER 101 a bottle of Arrogant Bastard, anyway.

Who doesnt like a good cold Arrogant Bastard?

Once you start the microbrewing, let me know. The market for microbrew out here is pretty significant.

I'm just glad I can brew up to 100 gallons a year without any licensing.

Strange in this state you have to go to liquor stores to get hard stuff for consumption at home, but you can go to any ShopKo store and get a beer brewing kit for $35 that will yield 7% alcohol in the end product. And you can buy the kit if you're 18.

LOL, most all of our beer here is at least 6% Light beer might be 4%, but if I'm going to have to take a leak, I want it to be worth the buzz!

Nectar compared to the other beers available in Moscow when I was there.

Now in Prague, this was a completely different story. The castles and food were better too. :)

Ok, then you should try Quilmes, Antartica, Tuskers, Cristal, Austral, Lion, Manica, 2M or Mosi for a change...

Actually, as this thread is about "malt beverages", I guess we might extend it beyond beers to whisk[e]ys quite easily...so, any votes? I myself only consume booze like Macallan, Highland Park or Cragganmore so I don't know much about "senseless" stuff there - please fill me in here...
