Re: A smear campaign against nekochan.net mods on reddit

I suspect he's on drugs of some kind (You know Europe - legal drugs and all!) and probably blames us for things that are hilariously not our faults.

For Sale: HP SCSI CDROM Drive

This was my primary SCSI CDROM unit until yesterday when I picked up a HP DVD SCSI drive at a recycler. It has been recently refurbished with a new SCSI controller board and works with all SGIs and Amigas I've tried it on. I am asking $55 including shipping to the US. I will also ship internationally.

Re: HP9000 C8000 noise

I had one. Relatively quiet. Power consumption was high enough that I couldn't run it on the same circuit as my origins though.

For Sale: SGI Octane 300MHz 512MB SI Graphics 36GB HDD

So I have another Octane I just got in that I need to sell off. It has 512MB RAM, a 300MHz R12000, and SI graphics. I am however running low on HDD sleds, so I will offer a deal: $210 with a sled having a 36GB HDD, $170 without one. If you need an even cheaper deal, I can drop it to 256 or 128MB of ...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

Actually my statement was regarding a CRT, since DLP bulbs do burn out relatively faster compared to the RGB CRT tubes.

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

The benefit over DLP is that they really can last longer than a DLP though if you're not planning to play any video games and just looking for a cheap, 'just working' solution you're better off with a DLP.

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

I have a Trinitron that predates the WEGA change, and a PVM both of which have been well used but they have been serviced and adjusted properly to stay running well. And this is just me but I watch my old movies like Pulp Fiction, Life of Brian as well as 1980s anime on CRT exclusively. I'm no exper...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

Some of the modern DLP projectors are really great. Throw distance of only a foot or two, bright enough to use during the day by only closing the shades, etc; full 1080p is available for a reasonable price. However you can get a really great 1080 or 4k LCD for about the same price and is as big as ...

You're not going to be able to swap the R12k in easily though.

Re: Want a SGI workstation for really cheap (<50€) or free

Well, shipping from USA to Italy is very expensive. SGI was based in the USA, so more were sold there. You may want to try German or Dutch marketplaces or local listings, you may have better luck in neighboring countries. Surely a train ticket to pick one up wouldn't be so bad.

Re: your latest purchase

He did, and actually had a 500 and some spares he had ordered years ago in the Commodore out of business sale.

He made me promise I wouldn't scalp someone online for any of it if I resell. I do not intend to. One of the systems is going to a computer museum. The rest I'm keeping.

Re: your latest purchase

He was the original owner. About eighty years old and he said the only reason he turned them in is because one is broken and his hands are too arthritic to hold a joystick anymore. Didn't know what they were still worth, he got a referral from a local who knows me personally though! I paid him $150 ...
