Re: WTB: Alpha in desktop/minitower form factor

Alphas came in a desktop/tower workstation form called Alphastations. The early Alphastations up to the DS10 were intended to be workstations, but from the DS10 onward they were the same machines for server and workstation, but the Alphastation variant had graphics and a sound card. But they are oft...

Certainly not that person in the film. I can tell you that much.

Re: Well I finally got my O2...in a million pieces

That sucks dude. Somehow my O2 survived being shipped from 1000KM away, with no serious damage, but I did find a very small hairline fracture on the back corner and a small chunk of blue plastic fell out of the space above the power supply and of course the cd drive tray cover is barely attached. I ...

Re: My Hot new Desk setup

Also been doing something similar. A few days ago dragged an old fake wood veneer desk out of the basement to put the SGI computers in and to keep them away from the sunlight. Have the mess of wires under my main desk, really gotta get those cleaned up. 2 years ago put wired Ethernet in the wall - w...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

Very expensive on the secondhand market. I had a DS20. I didn't know what to do with it after a time so I sold it as part of the crap that funded my first Tezro. I miss Byakuren. She was big and noisy but very fun I have a DS10 and I don't know what to do with it. I'm mulling the possibility of sel...

Still they're very nice systems. It's a pity they get no love.

Re: WTB-Indigo2 Stuff

I found someone on this very forum with very affordably priced drive sleds, several affordably priced internal SCSI optical drives, and hard disks and video adapters on Acronym1's eBay page. If only I wasn't going on vacation so I could buy all this stuff right now and get the Indigo2 up and runnin...

Re: WTB SGI Indy

People on the IRC channel said they can be had really cheap and easily. Word of advice, stay off there. Some people on there will ruin your passion for computers. That's the Nekochan IRC, right? I've heard not great things about it and by watching how some people around here act, it's not completel...

What about Alpha?

Runs Tru64, OpenBSD, NetBSD, VMS 7.x-8.4, Debian, Meditech Magic, (whatever that is).

That's blasphemy.

The whole point of of having an SGI to is to appreciate their unique qualities and to use IRIX.

Re: WTB SGI Indy

Speaking of Indigo2, got a decent Indigo2 IMPACT(Max) for $175 US.

Speaking of greedy sellers on fleabay. There certainly are. Some them are very tight fisted and won't budge an inch on prices. On the other hand some of them are very accommodating and happy to do business with you.

Re: your latest purchase

I think the total amount I sank into my A4000T, which has a 56MHz '060, Ethernet, a Picasso IV RTG card, a Jaz and a CD-ROM, was about $1700. Don't get me wrong, I like the machine, I enjoy AmigaOS on a conceptual level, and the unit is fun to mess around with. But I don't get a lot out of it other...
