Re: Looking for good software For PPC macs

iBook G4s can only run OSX. 10.4.11 (Tiger) would be the normal recommendation for a machine like that. There were thousands of software titles released for OSX PPC; what are you hoping to do with them?

Re: about LISP performance

Speaking of which, with regard to the Explorer, if I'm remembering right symbolics was the first dot com ever to be registered. The Internet certainly thinks so. In 1985 apparently. Note that domain registration depends on the DNS system, which was codified in November 1983 by RFC 882. Symbolics wa...

Re: about LISP performance

I have compiled results to share, and there's no word for them but "hilarious". I ended up having to use n=50000000 (as in the original examples) for the compiled results, because n=50000 was too fast for the resolution of the timer. MacIvory 2: 28 MacIvory 1: 54 MicroExplorer: 339 Necrop...

Is the problem that you cannot connect to a server?
Most everybody disabled SSL3 because of vulnerabilities like POODLE.

Each network interface needs to be provisioned in software to work. The same is true for serial ports.

Re: Dubious Tezro on ebay (certainly not mine!)

I assume that you can replace the AGP riser with PCI one with logic for AGP to PCI conversion is on AGP riser card and you can take out AGP cards and replace with V12 (i.e. back to SGI graphics), via XIO connector in chassis. The XIO card connector is on the back side of the PCI riser. The AGP rise...

Re: Dubious Tezro on ebay (certainly not mine!)

Please keep in mind that I have never used IP53 systems, and so my thoughts are based on information gleaned from the net. 1. I see that Tezro Rack is part of Chimera group and system boards are inter-changeable across then. Is this also true of Tezro Tower board ? Can you swap Tower & Rack boar...

You cannot share a torrent without publishing the 160-bit hash of each file (the magnet: url). Or sharing the .torrent file itself, which contains hashes and file lengths.

Re: Sync on green question

From the setmon(1M) manpage: On systems with CRM or IMPACT graphics, sync appears on the red, green and blue signals. The -s option does not affect the sync signals on these systems. CRM is the graphics device in the O2. It has a standard VGA connector, unlike some other SGIs, but the sync signals (...

Re: Indy RAM

You can identify whether a SIMM is parity and FPM by reading the part number on the chips. See http://www.chipmunk.nl/DRAM/ Companies that service old Macs may have them in stock (but they mostly would not be parity). If you can't find it elsewhere you can use a company like MemoryX that carries all...

Re: Resizing AdvFS partitions on Tru64

AdvFS uses "domains", which are made up of multiple partitions. I don't have time to read the docs but it should be possible to create additional partitions and add them to the existing domain to increase the available space.

Re: VNC to Origin2000

X11 is a protocol between clients (applications) and servers (that manage the display). Display support is compiled into the Xserver. Under the X11 model, headless servers don't exist: the Xserver is always accessing the display hardware. To display remotely, you log into a remote host with the DISP...
