The idea is that they're laying the foundation for later industry development. Intel didn't spring forth from Zeus' forehead producing Itanium 2s. They spent 25 years building industrial capacity and design talent. Nice analogy, but i don't think the goddess Athena would like been compared to Intel...

Re: Godson

How about quadcore 1.2GHz MIPS64 chips from Broadcom? Wouldn't it be nice to shoehorn one of those on a O2??? http://www.broadcom.com/products/Enterprise-Networking/Communications-Processors/BCM1480 I know you can currently buy a ATX board of Broadcom for "evaulation purposes", they call ...

Well given how much moaning Google are doing about Power costs of their Data centres etc. I say they are doing testing with the Ultrasparc T1 servers, after all SUN are marketing them as been more "envirnomentally friendly". Also no doubt there are alot of "old skool" unix and SU...

Re: HP 9000 systems

Before you get anything, check out http://www.openpa.net. Good summary of models. Don't get anything before a c200 (PA-8000 or lower). HP was enamored with differential SCSI, which while technically better than SE is a beast to find drives for. Oh i already have, openpa is one of my favourite tech ...

Re: Obvious Question?

Anyway, I think I'm formulating the most obvious question since the post that originated this thread! :P Other then fact that they can run Solari...

No pics but it would seem that Sun demo a system consisting of a Sun Fire X4600 and two of these Nvidia Quadro Plex 1000's at SigGraph. Up to 16 AMD64 cores and 128GB of Ram.
