Re: Nekochan open day in Europe in the spring????

Would anybody be interested in helping me organise/host a nekochan 'open day' in the spring? I am located in southern Germany (near Stuttgart) a town near Reutlingen, this is pretty central in terms of Europe. I may be able to sort out a location/hall for the day where we could bring along and run ...

Re: Monroe OC 8820 CP/M OS

I had already been in the microcomputer software biz for 5 years in 1984 ... Ah-ha ! So you were one of those guys selling screen capture programs for $400. No wonder you could retire to the south of France ! :P Look at those old prices ... amazing. And that was real money then, too. Software been ...

Re: Monroe OC 8820 CP/M OS

I know this is probably not going to happen but, anyone know who might have os disks for a Monroe OC 8820 ? Its a CP/M machine from around 1984. Used 5.25" floppies and runs some custom version of CP/M called OS8MT. I have a really nice looking one but, without those disks it is nothing more t...

Re: Talk to me about Asia.

I don't think Buffet meant "buy Lehman Brothers", by the way. GE is not going to fail any time soon. It's not a problem in manufacturing, it's a problem with the thieves in finance. All the really big criminals go into finance. It's the place to be if you're a crook. "I rob banks bec...

Sifting thru a pile of old leaflets, I just came across this video adaptor "providing a studio quality interface for Silicon Graphics Indigo series workstations". Back in 1993, the end-user price was $5900. I wonder whether anyone of you has ever used this board? If so, what where your ex...

Re: Has anyone ever seen CHU-HI or Deeppresso in the US?

Most anyone who's visited Japan and partaken in the vending machines (is it possible to visit Japan and _not_ partake in the vending machines?) should recognize these two... The former is the Kirin alcoholic beverage, and the latter is the Georgia-brand coffee... Does anyone recall seeing either of...

Heh ... nice haul!

Now you know why Real Men drive those big trucks ... so they never have to say "no" to a potential old computer rescue!

PS: Do this again next year, after I'm back in the Seattle area, willya? And bring a truck. I have way too much stuff.

A fuel is probably a little more than I need, but thanks for the pointer. I am getting bored being over here with only a laptop PC, though ...

Are you in France?

I'm sorry I won't be there; we'll still be here in France. Normally, though, I'm always up for a get-together.

Re: INDY

Is an indy any good to start out with?? Also is the 133 mhz version capable of running irix 6.5? To answer the second question first ... yep. I think all the Indys run 6.2 or later, though, IIRC, you have to change some setting to get 6.5.22 to boot after installation. 6.5.22 is the last version th...

Re: Will Apple branded HP DDS2 DAT work in I2/IRIX?

Wondering if anyone knows right-off, if an Apple branded HP DDS2 DAT drive will work in an indigo2 under IRIX without hacking anything. If you mean "work" as in "create tapes it won't read when you need them," then, yeah, it'll probably "work." In other words, don't de...

Re: Anyone here still use RG58/ThinWire coax? Have some free...

I'm sorting through my stuff, and don't plan on getting back into ThinWire Ethernet (10Base-2) any time in the near future... I have some new 25' cables, of the variety with BNC connectors on both ends, that I can offer for free, if someone's willing to pay the shipping by PayPal. Doesn't look like...

Re: Who leaves their SGI running 24/7

I leave two Challenge S's, with one 8 slot XL rackmounts each, plus a couple of SGI 330 PC's on 24/7. the consumption is dwarfed by the house A/C and the swimming pool pump. Haha. You really know what to say to ruin a European lefty's night :) Hej, with all that wind power you have up there, and mo...

Re: Who leaves their SGI running 24/7

Anyone leave their SGI's (desktop systems) running 24/7. Just courious what the power consumption would amount to for either an Octane or the O2. The O2's pretty modest on the heat/noise/consumption front. Even an Octane doesn't use that much power, but they are well on the "hot and loud"...

Re: What SUN hardware do we have?

SS LX or SS Classic are the bees knees in this catagory. You know, I forgot all about those two entries in the Sun lunchbox editions! Yep. Probably one of the all-time great power/size ratios going. The only downside to the physical design is that it's too tight to get an SCA drive with an 80->50 p...
