Mine has arrived! Time to un-virtualize my proxy and firewall.

SiliconClassics' video shows one, albeit briefly, at 2:55.

Re: Your first SGI encounter

It is not a SGI machine per se, but I would like to narrate my first encounter with a UNIX workstation. Back in school during my teenage years, I was a member of the aviation club. At some point, a brigadier of the Air Force became very supportive of the work we were doing there and arranged for us ...

Re: Anyone need a Z10 EC?

IBM shoots themselves in the foot, daily. Sad and true. So much potential to waste... Although I must say, my X1 Carbon 4th gen is quite nice; the only reason why it has so much control in the UEFI is because of the IBM fragments and the fact Lenovo themselves want to be able to mute Intel ME per t...

Re: Anyone need a Z10 EC?

Wow, that was fascinating.
Mainframes are incredible. I love the hardware-redundancy of everything, and how they are build to last and to just work. But boy, IBM can shoot itself on the foot at times. Security through obscurity can backfire badly.

You like to live dangerously. If I ever meet you, I'll be sure to never sit closer than 5 meters from you.

Re: Anyone need a Z10 EC?

It sounds like you're pretty familiar with Z/OS. Have you watched any of the security talks on YouTube? Very eye opening. I'm not that familiar... there's only so much you can do on the emulator. I haven't watched the talks. Is there anything specific you would recommend? But there's this: https://...

The argument:
With a proper heat pump, you won't ever need winter heating again, or a water boiler.
(I have no idea if that's ever needed where you are)

Re: Anyone need a Z10 EC?

RAID levels 1+0 XD

I'd love to play with such machine some day before I die... I spent far more time than reasonable fooling around with Hercules once upon a time.
The day I own a majority share of any power company I'm getting one.

Re: how things should be shipped properly

Nothing is ever foolproof though, one time a system I sent to Italy was wrecked because (I was told) a forklift in a warehouse shoved one of its fork prongs right through the box. When I got my IntelliStation, it was new in the box. It has suffered the same fork through box problem. My heart froze....

Re: Monitor suggestions for high-DPI experiment

I managed to come up with a way to reproduce what I mean, with a single screen: 1. Set your computer to 125% or 150% scaling. 2. Log out, log in. 3. Set the scaling back to 100%, don't log out. This is how every single application looks on my secondary screen when I have a scaled and a non-scaled sc...

Re: Monitor suggestions for high-DPI experiment

MS software (office, etc) works well. Not quite... My work machine is a W10 machine. Whenever I'm out of the office, i have the 1920x1080p 15-inch screen of my laptop set to 125% scaling. When I dock it, I add a 1920x1200 24-inch screen set to 100%. Whenever I move any Microsoft Office screen from ...

Re: Monitor suggestions for high-DPI experiment

The IBMT221 is certainly gorgeous, would be great for photos/images, but I find myself enlarging text on 1920x1080 displays (I end up like this , but without the 'shock' factor), so don't know if I would really be able to appreciate the finesse for daily usage. OS X and Linux handle scaling ...
