Re: IRIX shows multiple devices for a single disk

I've got an issue I've run into trying to dump an HFS disk image to a SCSI drive using my Fuel. The device is recognized properly, but IRIX sees the one unit as about a dozen. Disk manager shows they are all the exact same size and the drive only contained one partition when pulled from the previou...

We used it to create the WindowsNT/Alpha version of Digital Fusion. I think it maybe have gone as far Visual C++ 5.0 or Visual C++ 6.0, I was doing WindowsNT x86 digital fusion work with VC++ 6.0 at the time.

Re: why is Yahoo! so stewpid ?

I've just been forced to "upgrade" to a new yahoo mail backed by a television-media / yahoo joint venture. I wish they would include a "fuck off" button in all these upgrades(*), at least with the very recent gmail one you can disable the new features. R. * It doesn't have to do ...

poorest movie ever? not that i know anything about it...just requoting I think "Machete Kills" and "Plan 9 from outter space" are possibly worse. What is it with Hollywood lately, that they can't put together anything that is not cringe-worthy. Is there profit to be made in audi...

Re: BeagleBone Black

I decided a c-ray benchmark was in order. GCC 4.7.3 is preinstalled, so I compiled the c-ray benchmark and ran the single core version. I ended up with around 33.5 seconds. Disappointing! My 250MHz Indigo2 scored over twice as fast. And the BeagleBone Black has a 1GHz ARM processor. The Cortex proc...

Re: Screen resolution for an O2

Hello, After many years of sitting in a cupboard and doing nothing, I've been making an attempt recently to resurrect one of my O2s as a usable experimenting/hobby machine. I've already shifted IRIX onto a new 300GB hard drive (to replace the original 4GB system disk), upgraded it to 6.5.30 and hav...

Re: Terminal Types

I know when you login from a serial console by default it asks for a terminal type and recommends a VT100. I'm aware that there is more terminal definitions in /usr/lib/terminfo/* but from what I'm seeing so far it's all for AT&T equipment. There's nothing specifically for systems like the ASR4...

Re: Octane / CD Drive / IRIX Disks ?

Good day everyone, i just fulfilled myself a childhoods dream and bought a beautiful Octane Workstation on ebay. Back in the days when i was a little nerd kid my father sometimes brought one of those "sgi PERFORMER" Magazines home from work. I LOVED this magazine and the mysterious, color...

Re: CF-IO Wireless and Windows

Was pulling strings with an AmbiCom subsidiary and it got to a point where they just emailed me the source code for the driver. Okay, that's another way to make this work. Take the XP driver and find out why it doesn't work in 2000. Unfortunately my driver skills are non-existant. The code ...

Re: New laptop thoughts

OK, I will have to take a much closer look at the latest mac OS to decide. I don't mind simple warnings for programs from unknown publishers and the like, if you can acknowledge them and then do what you want. That is a (very small) help in keeping out unwanted crud. And I can manage saying "N...

Re: New laptop thoughts

And, in general, I am concerned that apple will push Macs toward their walled garden of apple store software. They sort of already have. As a "security feature" if you install software from an "unknown publisher" it will not let you run it first time... warning as such, then you...

Re: Jurassic Park cgi ... interesting :)

There is a bit in Aliens (the first of the sequels) where they had an alien made of rubber on a string and placed it on an over turned piece of furniture and yanked the string... they reversed the film so it looks like the alien is leaping off the floor... And apparently it was done with "in ca...

Re: O2 CD drive - where does the little white gear go?

Howdy I recently acquired an old R5k O2, and it suffers from the famous thrown gear problem in the CD drive unit. I've pulled apart the machine and I have the CD drive and the little white gear, but I can't figure out where it actually goes in the mechanism. I've searched the forums but the posts I...
