If the region is filled with analod cables, they will route everyone's connection to one end point and limit the bandwith there, So, sometimes you will get way more then you deserve, while other times you will have a sh...

What the fuck is the rest of y'alls excuse?

I voted for csh. my excuse is that it's the default shell :)

and by the way, nor vim nor emacs, ed is the default text editor!

firewall: irix or openbsd

I have one dying Pentium133. it have been my trust firewall and lame web server (http, mysql, ssh) for years. I have two boxes available: another pentium133 with openBSD and a Indy R4k with irix6.5 (just the plain foundations discs instaled yet, but i have the 6.5.22 discs somewhere) I confess i've ...

Is Ruby actually in demand? I kinda brushed it off as the latest fad language. Actualy, that's second. first should be perl ;) There's 3 languages you should know today, if you cut them down by market/purpose, you get: C/C++ for real work (and serious companies ...add assembly for embebed market) p...

Re: 4dwm gets old

Even if there are a lot of 4dwm devotees here, I think it is obious that 4dwm is not state of the art anymore and a lot of people here would really like to get a modern desktop environment on irix. Now as I understand it, the newest one is some gnome 1.2 off sgi freeware. So how about gnome or kde ...

i wouldn't go for optical disc for backup.

what about a 4x 500gb HD's setup?

you just copy 1TB each time. have 2 offsite versions of the backup.

put em in some firewire/usb cases and you have more performance then dvd/tape.
