SGI random Ebay goodness (not mine) Discs, Plastics, Logos, parts.
Random find today. This seller has a lot of clothing aaaaaand... a decent sized mix of SGI related goodies. Case logos, Irix discs, plastics for o2, o200, Indigo feet, speakers, etc. https://www.ebay.com/sch/4preciousmoments/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from= Interesting find. 8-...

Re: Icons for Irix
I did get a few icons to work but, in the case of Photoshop and Firefox it doesn't seem to work. I am wondering if I need to change something elsewhere as I keep getting this.. Octane 7# tag -q firefox tag: firefox is not an executable or tagged shellscript Octane 8# su root Octane 1# make u don't k...

Re: Houdini 5.5 Irix
Oh. I meant Houdini version numbers. I have only seen those Houdini versions around. But yes. Even in cases where Irix os 4 — 6.5 would still determine rarity of use.

Re: Houdini 5.5 Irix
Yeah, even between 2013 and 2016 many of the tutorials left online became very version specific. Node names where changed or old nodes removed and replaced with new methodology. In this situation I know that people in Irix will most likely be running version 5, 5.5, 6, or 6.5.x I don’t know where yo...

Houdini 5.5 Irix
Finally was able to get a version of Houdini running in Irix. Oh what a long battle this was. Unlike the other applications I was never able to try Houdini until 2006 on windows. So the entire UI felt completely alien to me at first. After fiddling around I found out it isn't that different from mod...

Re: Icons for Irix
The Icons themselves but also the case usage, how to make them, and add them to the system for use. Too many desktop items on the Octane have zero graphic and just the standard flat page that stands up.
Thanks for the link.
One of them, one page back links to an empty page.

Re: VPro drivers, no network / CDROM source media
My 8 core win7 PC has two decently loud fans. Such that I've acclimated over the years to hearing it. The SGI machines, and even the Octane, are less than half as loud, if that. So to me they are very quiet. Though I will say that the first drive I had in the o2 was a very clicky noisy thing. The re...

Maya Mental Ray Displacement +Refl Blur
I ran the Octane through some stress tests today. I attempted tesselated displacement renders on the o2 and I think had one or two make it all the way through but most ran out of memory. Need more than 256mb for this kind of test. The Octane has the benefit of being 64bit with 640MB ram at the momen...

I need this info right now. So, reviving dead thread.
But, question. Did the link, one page back, at one time have info in it?

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.
Yes, changing the xserver line to the true color 24 fixed all the refresh issues in the Firefox browser and sure made all the desktop icons looks very nice.
Thanks.

Thanks.

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.
OK, Firefox successfully installed. :) Thanks for all the help. I am getting slowly better at recognizing the processes in Irix This firefox is faster but it seems to have some refresh issues. Some text entry spots go black as if they are highlighted but they aren't. Some kind of redraw issue maybe?...

Re: WSI WEATHERProducer and Showfx
Didn't we see one more of these show up on Ebay in the last year or so?
I seem to remember posting on a thread about this same type of weather system o2.
SiliconClassics post here with some regularity, he may have more info for you.

Send an email to Ian at SGI Depot and see if he has some around still. I just ordered one not long ago for my second o2.

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.
I borrow from my Linux knowledge which I use at work. BUT, for whatever reason... in 12 years on Linux systems at Digital Domain, Disney, Mirada, etc. I had yet to see a tbz file. I was familiar with tar, tardist, tar.gz. Yet, since I had opened up tar.gz files only to have it tell me the file was c...

Is the TBZ file format a zipped Tar as well? gunzip then tar -xvf?
