Re: SoftImage 3D 4.0 works better in windows than irix ?

Yes, when it went from 2010 to 2011 the QT slowed down marking menus and the overall UI interactivity. I was pretty upset about it at first. BUT the way you could kit bash QT ui elements quickly made me forget about it. Over time it has become responsive again although I also miss the generic grey v...

Re: Selling SGI Collection

I'm down in Los Angeles.

Is there any 3D animation software installed on any of them?

I'm always looking for old Irix installs that had 3d animation packages on them. Maya, Softimage, Power Animator, Lightwave, etc.

Re: SoftImage 3D 4.0 works better in windows than irix ?

Softimage 4.0 is only very marginally different than Softimage 3.9.x. They are 95% the same. There are some new tools in 4.0 but nothing that is going to change the way you work in general. There are some modeling history features that are neat and new cluster (moving chosen model vertex points all ...

Re: Octane arrived. Advice on small problem.

Even with the 13W3 adapter don't you also need an SOG monitor to avoid getting the Matrix-like "green tint" syndrome? Probably, I ordered an adapter this morning from Monospace. The one on Amazon was from Monospace so I just went to their website. It was two dollars cheaper at the website...

Re: SGI IRIX and computer graphics currently? What that should i use ?

Not sure what you mean by "current" SGI machines. There are no current ones that I know of. The machines we adore here are o2, Octane, Octane2, Fuel, Indigo, Iris, Origin, Onyx, Tezro, and a few others. These are the Irix workstations. There was some windows NT SGI machines that weren't ma...

Re: SGI IRIX and computer graphics currently? What that should i use ?

The fact is that SGI models from Octane 2, are perfect for commercial use of current CGI including film production! Raion-fox, Wrong, SGI is able to do even better in the CGI animation, I'm almost buying a SGI Tezro to get to work. No one here wants to discount your passion for Irix, SGI, and old s...

Lots of ground to cover here so bear with me. The applications that you say that you like are decent 3D applications. They are not being used by major studios to complete television, film, or video game projects though. Daz, Miku, and Poser are more utilized for concepting than for actual modeling o...

Re: Softimage weirdness: Not registering mouse clicks

Found the file this morning. Finally. Then came back here to see that you had already found the info here on Nekochan. I modified the file to the 1600x resolution so it could go fullscreen and my problems went away. Did it solve the mouse locking up though? I have the sw1600 but also an LG hd 1920x1...

Re: Octane arrived. Advice on small problem.

I think its fine. If that is all, it is very minor. Just need to get an adapter now to test it.

They have those $30 ones on Ebay. Just wondering if maybe local Fries electronics might have similar OR if SGI has a specific one?

Not sure how that one pic ended up sideways, Its upright on my phone.

Octane arrived. Advice on small problem.

So the Octane I purchased from Fox arrived and it is in very good condition. Very clean shell. The only issue is that in shipping one of the screws that releases the mobo looks bent. And advice before I fiddle with it? I am guessing it needs to be bent straight again? Also, I forgot I need an adapte...

Re: Softimage weirdness: Not registering mouse clicks

I'll have to fire up the o2. I did some poking around since Softimage native resolution doesn't display right on the sw1600. It was always justified left and I could see the irix desktop on the right but the mouse would not be able to go over to it. I'd have to minimize first. I found the config fil...
