Nice product but an error with my Octane

Hi, I heard about this product in a linux journal and a couple of online resources so I was eager to try the beta out. I downloaded the file onto my SGI Octane (195MHz 896Mb Dual SI cards and 9 gb Hd) and installed it. The installation went well, but whenever I try to run the file as user or superus...

cool science programs??

I'm getting tired of asking these kinds of questions, but, does anyone know of a graphical recent version of SETI@home\similar programs for Irix, anything with a similar idea (distrubuted computing) would be a great link. Thanks!

Using python on Irix?

I'm learning python in school, and I really like it. I downloaded the Console/standard version of python 2.2 of the SGI Freeware site. The problem is, I program in python with the IDLE gui on Windows as a go between from python to the console interpreter. So, I have many a working function, but I ha...

Serious XMMS problems...

Wow, im in trouble....When I got my Octane, It had XMMS 1.7 on it. For a half-year it was extremely dependable and nicely skinned. Yesterday, I was playing some shoutcast..er....streaming mp3s, and decided to try out geekosphere and the opengl analyzer and such (viz-plugins). Then, accidently, I clo...

Nice fresh programs

I found a great demo for a nice visualization program for Irix. Its called iview3d and there are a couple of demos on their site to really impress your friends. Warning: even though the small demos work great and lightning fast on my SI Octane, the biggest files take some seconds to work. Add this t...

Just out of curiosity

I was curious, anyone have any SGI/Silicon Graphics workstation Performance Promo videos that aren't about how the Navy is virtually destroying Arabian cities with high-tech Onyx 2s. Also, is it possible for anyone to post a general GCC, Irix and code porting/compiling from the open source world, tu...

Well, I'm not realy sure, as I said, I only have one monitor. When I tried with two monitors last time, the results were inconclusive because my lw3--> PC Monitor converter for the second SI is absolute crap. On the bright side, the SI is listed in the System Manager. Resolution, information and con...

A lost cause?

I, like many of you, spent months looking for that wonderful, do-everything set of programs for Irix. While looking high and low, looking for software via google is often repetitive and un-predictable. The process is similar to looking for a wife but with deadlinks and pages from the mid 90's. Its n...
